Avenue RestaurantExcellent Dinner and ValueAs always the Avenue provided an excellent choice of dishes from the TT menu.
Very good food and excellent service. We have dined here before on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed.10/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent service and lovely foodspecial menu gives above outstanding score, though without the offer of market menu, might have lost a star. There was only a Merlot on offer (which is the only red wine I cannot drink!) for the wine option in the fixed menu. While I have encountered the merlot only option before, we were offered a complementary tea or coffee to end the meal instead of the free glass of wine. While we paid for a bottle of different wine, this was still first time that this alternative offer was immediate and pro-active in my experience. Food was delicious and well presented, altogether a very enjoyable cullinary experience and the service really was exceptional, pleasant and helpful, responsive, but not obsequious! We will be back.10/05/2013 00:00:00Relaxed EveningI went to the Avenue with a friend for the two course toptable deal and a glass of wine. As we arrived a little early we both decided to have cocktails to start in the bar area. These were delicious and a brilliant start to our meal. Our table was at the back of Avenue on the raised part of the restaurant, which did seem a lot nicer than the main area as it felt more secluded and personal. We both had smoked salmon with a burger to follow, which has beautiful presentation and a lovely combination of flavours. In addition, the staff we friendly and attentive without being pushy. All in all a very nice evening and a safe bet for a restaurant if you are unsure of where to go. I am sure I will be making a third trip back there.09/05/2013 00:00:00Twice in a rowI don't go to The Avenue for weeks, than I go two days in a row at the request of my guests! Luckily the spring menu is long enough to be able to choose different dishes. But in fact I chose the roasted fennel salad again! Sadly it wasn't quite as good as the first time. For the main course my guest chose the pepper crusted fish whilst I chose the risotto. I should have taken note of the waiter's surprize because what arrived was a bowl of pale green rice and blobs of goat's cheese on top. It was tasty but visually not exciting. The chicken was better the day before.09/05/2013 00:00:00Another enjoyable visitThe set menu offered a choice of four starters - all of which I could have chosen but went for the roasted fennel. The main course offered five choices which was fine for two of us who chose the chicken breast and pepper crusted cod. They were very tasty. But the third guest wanted to go a la carte. The Avenue don't do this and merely offered another set menu with slightly more choice. So individual dishes were not priced.I can see that they keep their prices competitive by only offering set menus but odd for the client who isn't tempted by anything on the Spring Menu. Nevertheless the service was excellent with the poor waiter valiantly trying to explain why it wasn't possible to choose just one course.08/05/2013 00:00:00New pictures to view as you eatWe both enjoyed the dining experience- the service was good, albeit rather too intrusive, but the friendly staff certainly looked after us. The food was well cooked and well presented. I especially enjoyed the fact that the restaurant has chosen to display works of art - the decor has been greatly enhanced by this touch. I will be going back soon!04/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent with toptable special.Excellent with toptable special. Food was good for the price. Service excellent.30/04/2013 00:00:00we dined at the Avenue andwe dined at the Avenue and ordered the special spring offer which was great. the choices of courses and the quality of the food and wine was so good we will be back.
We arrived 7 of us and had only booked for 6, but it was no problem to sort this out. I can highly recommend this great place for everybody.26/04/2013 00:00:00The spring set menu offerThe spring set menu offer at The Avenue in St James is excellent value and offers enough variety for al. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. I would definitely go back again, good food and prices with oustanding service and environment.26/04/2013 00:00:00Mayfair gemWe went to the Avenue for set dinner offer of 2 courses and a glass of wine at £17.50. This is really great value for high level food and service restaurant. The waiters were very attentive and welcoming. We had a very enjoyable evening.26/04/2013 00:00:00@ttentive @ @venueFrom entering @venue for dinner with the girls to finishing the evening with night caps, the service, ambience and food were second to none. The tables were well spaced, the staff very attentive and the food was delicious and arrived very promptly. Our glasses were topped regularly and although staff were never far away, you still felt as though you had privacy and weren't being pestered throughout dinner. We also enjoyed the art on show within the restaurant and the lovely light reflecting from the floor to ceiling mirrors throughout. This was our first time at @venue and we will definitely be going back again.25/04/2013 00:00:00this time went with 2 workthis time went with 2 work colleagues. great they have lunch offers. although getting just one main a la carte dish doesn't seem an option. salmon starters and the fennel salad were delicious (they forgot the quinoa!! didn't bother to complain as realised as almost finished). The cod was also very good but one of my companions wasn't happy with the disparity of sizes of fish (got the small one I guess). This time the service wasn't as great, they were ultraslow and forgot things. as anyone I bring to Avenue my colleagues were impressed. Great ambiance for lunch on a weekday.23/04/2013 00:00:00Catch up lunchI met a friend from the US and had a lovely catch up lunch. The food was great and the special offer was lovely. The restaurant was very busy which increased the noise level somewhat but not to the point that it was dreadful. The waiting staff were lovely and nothing was too much bother. Enjoyed it and would go again in a heartbeat !23/04/2013 00:00:00Last minute booking for 3-courseLast minute booking for 3-course pre theatre set menu at £20 was outstanding value this very smart restaurant with its W1 address. A good selection of choices for each course, attentive and friendly waiters, good quality house wine at £20/bottle and tasty food made this a really enjoyable precursor to our night out at the theatre. Recommended.20/04/2013 00:00:00Avenue RestaurantWe met friends for dinner at Avenue restaurant. The special Spring Menu offer seemed very good value for a central London restaurant. It turned out to be an excellent choice! Tasty food, discreet but very attentive service and a good value menu. Extra drinks however were quite pricey. The decor was bright and modern and as there were lots of people eating there, the atmosphere was good. We shall certainly return.17/04/2013 00:00:00Thoroughly enjoyableOn a very wet and windy Saturday we visited this restaurant having pre booked for the Spring menu. We had a really lovely time. All of the staff were very welcoming, the service was fabulous, the food was delicious and I would definately recommend this restaurant. A lovely place to catch up with friends in a modern environment. When we arrived we were cold and damp from walking around in bad weather all day, it was great to relax and thaw out at the bar before being seated. When we left we were so pleased to have rounded off our day out in London at such a great place and would definately recommend it.13/04/2013 00:00:00This is the third time I haveThis is the third time I have eaten here and it never disappoints12/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent value! The food was lovely and amazing value via Toptable. The staff were friendly and attentive but gave us the right amount of space so that they were not too intrusive. Beautiful, elegant and big restaurant yet it still manages to feel intimate.12/04/2013 00:00:00Great service, Good foodWe went to The Avenue to meet up with a friend for dinner. The location of this restaurant is near Green Park, so it is very convenient. There is a 2 course fixed course menu which is fantastic value for money and the a la carte is reasonable. The food was yummy and the presentation was good. The service was exceptional. One of the waiter accidentally spill the wine on the table. However, the waiter automatically apologies profusely and the restaurant give us all new drinks and move tables to ensure our evening was not disturbed. Everyone there is very attentative.12/04/2013 00:00:00L'Avenue in St JamesIs a truly exceptional place. The feel good factor is strong. The atmosphere is professional but not overbearing. We enjoyed a wonderful Top Table special menu of a quality way beyond its cost. You will not be disappointed.09/04/2013 00:00:00My friends and I had a lovelyMy friends and I had a lovely evening at Avenue Restaurant. The meal deal was excellent value and there was a larger choice that we expected. We werent rushed at all through the courses, although we were there on a Tuesday so dining may not be so leisurely on a Friday or Saturday night! We would definitely recommend having dessert! We will be returning soon.09/04/2013 00:00:00Modern restaurant with deliciousModern restaurant with delicious food and great service!
Great location within walking distance of Piccadilly Circus and Green Park.
Great for coupls and friends getting together.
Standard menu might be pricy so should go for the offer!06/04/2013 00:00:00What is a pie without pastry?2 of my group ordered a pie. It was only after our starters were served we were informed the kitchen had run out of pastry so they would be serving us potato instead, did we want to cancel our side order of potato? Huh? If a pie doesn't have pastry then it is not a pie. And I find it hard to believe a chef can't rustle up more pastry.
Anyway, we chose something else for the menu and all was well.
It is this little incident that marks down the service. In every other regard the staff were great.
It was a perfect central location to meet up with friends on a Saturday night when you wanted to be able to hold a conversation and be able to hear. Slightly off from the usual haunts, it was quiet and civilised.06/04/2013 00:00:00excellent food at affordable pricesThe Spring menu was excellent value, and of very good quality. The service was attentive without being obstrusive. The ladies at the reception desk were very welcoming. Highly recommend The Avenue04/04/2013 00:00:00Good value dinningWe went to Avenue restaurant,to try the spring menu.
The ambience was really good and the service friendly and thoughful.
The menu was tasteful and unbeatable priceless for 17.50 with a glass of wine.03/04/2013 00:00:00A nice discovery near Green Park...Loved this place. A great new find going via the Toptable promotion (a three course set menu with a choice of four dishes for each course). Lovely clean, minimalist design/layout, nicely spaced out tables, attentive staff (although at times I felt our waiter was a little too attentive) and a very enjoyable meal. I will certainly go back again.03/04/2013 00:00:00pleasant diningA pleasant lunch with friends. We ordered from the spring menu (set lunch ) which had a number of appealing options.
Food was variable on this occasion which was a little disappointing. Service was excellent. We haven't visited this restaurant in a long time. Would certainly return even with our slight disappointment.02/04/2013 00:00:00Very good foodWe went here for the spring menu which was very good value. Both the food and wine which accompanied it were lovely. The service was attentive and friendly and as we'd explained we were going to the theatre afterwards also prompt. We will certainly return.26/03/2013 00:00:00Good value upmarket mealWe went to Avenue with my parents for a mid-week evening meal. The decor is minimalist and clean. The atmosphere was a bit lacking, but we feel that was more due to the fact that it was the middle of the week, than the restaurant itself. Service was attentive but not pushy. We had the London Restaurant Fortnight menu, and found it to be great value. We were especially impressed with the chocolate fondant and frozen yoghurt desert. I would go again.26/03/2013 00:00:00Great food and excellent service.Great food and excellent service. They presented my wife with a special sweet when they found out it was her birthday. We will return.26/03/2013 00:00:00Service was exceptional. WhenService was exceptional. When the waiter noticed I wasn't enamoured with my soup he offered to replace it with another starter.23/03/2013 00:00:00A Nice TreatChic feel to restaurant, nice blend of formal and informal diners. Limited but good quality choice on the London restaurant fortnight menu, my wife had the smoked salmon and I had the terrine which were both excellent. Waiting staff were friendly with the right amount of attention. Good value menu as half bottle of wine per person included, however I felt the bar drinks were on the expensive side, but I suppose this is SW1 after all. Overall a very nice experience and would certainly return.22/03/2013 00:00:00Pretty good value overallWe had the lunch special - goats cheese and beetroot salad starter (excellent), one beef burger (very good), one fish and chips (frankly, disappointing - I should have remembered that pollack is cheap for a reason, and the batter was somewhat overwhelming), plus a glass of wine each (nothing special, but for 17.50 each all-in, what can you expect?). Watch the price of coffee - £3.50 for a single machiato, which clearly boosts the restaurant's margin. All in all, pretty good value given the location, the ambience and service - but I'm not sure I'd have the fish and chips again.15/03/2013 00:00:00Middx GirlsEnjoyed our evening good food and wine. We enjoyed the flavors of the courses. This was a good offer.14/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent service and surroundingsThe @venue is reliably great, I have always enjoyed my meals there and the special offers are great value.09/03/2013 00:00:00For special occasionNice open, chic restaurant, ideal for special occasions09/03/2013 00:00:00An Excellent EveningWe have been before to the Avenue and this visit was no exception to an excellent evening and great value. A wide choice of all courses available and together with a glas of wine at £17.50 was superb. We will be visiting again.08/03/2013 00:00:00great servicegood service as always, but a bit bland on the seafood dish, and not too many options on the set menu, still we had a good time and was good value. The red merlot that came with the menu tasted like vinegar, perhaps they thought we wouldn't notice.. we didn't drink much of it..07/03/2013 00:00:00Great environment and serviceI had not been here for several years but thoroughly enjoyed it and wondered why it had taken so long to return. We selected a two course menu and found that was just about perfect for us. All of the service was excellent. My main course (a chicken dish) was spot on. I was very pleased that the restaurant took the trouble to seat us as requested when I booked online (a table on the right hand side).06/03/2013 00:00:00Good birthday meal outTook my husband for dinner. He had the 3 course and wine offer and I had the 2 course, which offers excellent value for money. The food was great and quickly turned around (which we needed). Also service was good.05/03/2013 00:00:00As usual great all roundI have used this restaurant even when it was a conran. I use it regularly as it is around the corner from my office, the set menu deal with TT is great value, the attentative service is always good and the ambiance of the place has a great buzz, everyone I have recommended this restaurant to loves it, well done Avenue!04/03/2013 00:00:00Always good to dine at!We normally go for the offer. It is really good value and food never disappoint us. Definitely come back!01/03/2013 00:00:00Great birthday meal with friendsI had my birthday celebration dinner with 5 friends on Thursday night. The restuarant was not busy when we arrived but filled up quickly. There was plenty of choice on the deal menu. They also had a good wine list. The service was excellent throughout. No faults and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I recommend and I will go again.28/02/2013 00:00:00Very professional and friendlyVery professional and friendly staff who know exactly when they need to be at the diners table and when to be more discreet.23/02/2013 00:00:00Catch up business / girlie lunchI love Avenue' s Bar (and want it in my house ! ) its so long and has sooooo many bottles !!
I also love the sky light which makes a difference when the dark is quite dull outside.
The food was good and my only grumble is that the dessert was not hot enough. Other than that was a great experience and I will be back20/02/2013 00:00:00We had a very pleasant evening,We had a very pleasant evening, just the two of us. The waiters and waitresses were excellent, although there was a delay in getting the first course, for which we received a fulsome apology. We had a lot to talk about, so it did not much matter. The neighbouring diners were pleasant.19/02/2013 00:00:00FabulousWe had a party of seven and had a fabulous meal. The service was impeccable too. We would certainly go again.16/02/2013 00:00:00I thought the service wasI thought the service was excellent. Waiters very attentive and extremely friendly. On the food I had a venison pie which was overpacked, slightly cold and felt like a reheated pie.15/02/2013 00:00:00valentine day dinnerI had lovely time in Avenue restaurant on Valentine's day with my boyfriend. good ambience, service was good and attantive. Food was good, nothing extra ordinary but good value for the money.14/02/2013 00:00:00We went for a special menuWe went for a special menu (2 courses and a glass of Prosecco: £19.50, 3 courses £24).
It was such a good value for money, especially burger was really good. Unlike value menu at other restaurant, Prosecco was a proper, good quality glass. We really enjoyed our dinner. Recommended for close friends' dinner or a small group of ladies' dinner.12/02/2013 00:00:00
