Athena Greek Taverna Ratings and Reviews
Good choice of Greek food, attentive waitress, however, I had the mousaka which had obviously been made earlier and put in microwave, when I got it presented to me it was Luke warm in the middle, no steam came from cutting it in middle, I like my food piping hot
Authentic Greek cuisine
We hit on the Athena by chance as it happened to be within walking distance of our B&B. On Saturday night it was buzzing, warm and welcoming. Food was excellent, creamy tzaziki with warm pitta, juicy chicken souvlaki and melt in the mouth tender kleftico. Generous portions and reasonable value. Sunday night we returned for more.. Quieter but still a good atmosphere and again the food was lovely, especially sea bass fillets pan fried with a lemony dressing. Wine is a wee bit pricey but that's a small quibble - otherwise pretty much perfect.
I booked the table late in the day, and did so as I had read online that this was the best Greek restaurant in Glasgow. I love Greek food. I can't comment on the other places, but this was the best meze I've had in a long time, and I have had quite a few. The dishes were well prepared, with a great selection, and more than enough for both my other half and I. The service was just right and the atmosphere was lovely. My only concern was that we had quite a small table, and it was a bit overcrowded what with drinks and dishes, but other than that we both had a lovely time, and when I go back to Glasgow I would definitely eat there again.
New location, but the same enjoyable food.
We hadn't yet been to Athena in it's new location, so thought it was about time that we did. The food is still good with very friendly service. The group we go out with always enjoys Athena no matter where it is located.
Athena ... Best Greek Restaurant
Top class restaurant .. Can't fault service or food.
Just the best Greek restaurant in Glasgow
This was our first visit to Athena in its new situation....we loved the food at the old site and we were hoping it would be as good.....first impressions on entering the new restaurant were very positive, lovely decor clean and a very warm welcome. The food was totally amazing and plentiful. The stiffado was the best I have ever had lovely rich gravy with plentiful good quality steak. Overall the whole meal was amazing and excellent value for money. Our waitress was attentive and couldn't have done better. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem of a restaurant, we will be back for more 😃
The service was lower than average, the food smal portion ,quality average and not value for money. No friendly to kids. Music was terrible although greek music is nice but they choose the worst music that I heard ever. I do t think that is any reason to go again to this restaurant .. I am not keen to recommend to anyone!
We go to Greece most years for our holidays. Our experience on 22nd March took us right back and we are now looking forward to returning to Greece again this year. Thanks so much for your kind hospitality and superb service. Next time we are in Glasgow, we will be sure to visit.
very tasty food, great service
Second time I have been here in a few weeks. Never seems that busy but that suits me as the food is delicious and the service is great. Very rasonably priced. Around £25 for starter, main and 2 large glasses of wine. Will definitley be back.
Went on Valentine's day with my boyfriend. There was a set menu that was great value for money with a great selection of all different foods. The portions were huge! There was that much we had two trays of food to take away! All the food was tasty, I would definetely recommend!
Dining experience in 'Athena Greek Restaurant'
This restaurant was an excellent choice. The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. There were two concerns: I had confirmed our booking on the day we were going. We were twenty minutes late as our taxi driver could not find the address. The table had been given away. I felt they had my contact number and could have contacted me. This was sorted quickly. The wine we choose, they only had one bottle but did not make us aware of this at the time we placed the order. That said, I would definitely return as the above were soon forgotten and they handled it very well. All four of us loved it.
We went to Athena for my birthday dinner. The staff were very welcoming and the food was amazing. When the staff heard that it was my birthday they went above and beyond all my expectations. The restaurant was warm and cosy. Will definitely be going back again. Well done Athena.
Great Food, Great Price, Great service
This is a lovely place to eat, the food, service, decor and price are all fantastic. We will definitely be back for more!
Excellent as always!
Really enjoyed our evening with friends. As always food was excellent and staff friendly and polite. We reminisced about Frixos and the southside Athena, I'm sure he's proud of you Kevin! Enjoyed the complimentary Filfar liquer, felt I was back in Cyprus! Wishing all the team a very happy Christmas. Won't be long till we return
relaxing, wonderful meal
We have had holidays on Greek islands before and absolutely love Greek food. Some Greek restaurants in the UK we have tried have disappointed, so we were delighted when Athena proved to be a big hit. The food was really flavoursome. I had the souszoukakia and my husband had the lamb kleftiko. Both were superb. Tasty starters as well and some lovely tzatziki, all washed down with a bottle or two of Mythos. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Food portions very generous. The roast potatoes were a particular favourite. Would definitely return and would highly recommend.
Been to the Athena on a number of previous occassions but first time at its latest address. Always loved the food in the past but on this visit the food tasted as if the microwave had been the main item used in the cooking. Will return but disappointed this time

Very good service ,nice atmosphere, I had broccoli soup for the starter enjoyable but a bit salty .Mains was pasticho which was tasty. My wife had king prawns for starter and kleftiko for mains and was happy with both.Enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be back.
We visited Athena for a set pre-theatre dinner and we were pleasantly surprised by both the service and the delicious food. While the pre-theatre menu itself was pretty limited, there is enough choice to suit everyone, including vegetarian choices. This was our first tasting of Greek cuisine, and it may now be our favourite palate. The service was first-class and very attentive. Definitely recommended.
Fantastic food, great service
Fantastic food and great service, staff were excellent and food beautiful
Delicious as always
Having been a fan of Athena since its southside days I am delighted to say it just gets better and better! Had a fantastic meal and despite being the 1st to arrive in the restaurant at 5pm, it was only a matter of minutes till the place was buzzing. Well done Frixos for passing on your ethos to Kevin and his team!

Pleasant staff - lovely surroundings - excellent food at good price.
Service was swift and very pleasant. Stifado and sea bass both excellent, not so impressed with haloumi starter. (To be fair I am just back from Cyprus and making a comparison with fab cheese there) Great value with 25% discount. A little disappointing that they were unable to take credit cards but they did phone ahead and advise us of this. Hopefully only a temporary measure. Place was busy and buzzing probably great for small groups. Would recommend!
well worth the visit!
We had a delicious lunch on our recent trip to Glasgow, complimented by meeting chef Andy who came to our table and gave us a few tips on his cooking! 😀
We booked a pre-theatre taking advantage of the 40% off offer online. The food was excellent, the service friendly, attentive and accommodating of my being on a gluten-free diet. Have never really noticed its being there before but would certainly return now.
I love the food in Athena, its very tasty, good value, and the service is friendly, attentive and courteous. Its handy for Central Station, and I've had lunch and dinner, and the pretheatre. All of it is great value. The moussaka is amazing- authentic and delicious. For a really good meal in the centre of Glasgow its highly recommended.
The Prawns are amazing, so well cooked it's hard not to go for this choice, on a menu that seems even bigger because of the amount of great dishes. Everything out of the kitchen is pretty much perfect, and service is genuine and friendly. As Del Boy would say, 'Bonnetti.' Whatever that means, as long as it's a compliment.
Super meal on a busy Saturday night
The restaurant was buzzing on a pre Xmas Saturday night. The friendly staff were well prepared to handle the situation and gave us first class service. The food, chosen from the Xmas Meal deal, was extremely good. The prawns were the best I have had in years. Great evening.
Took my family to the Athena. The first time the girls have eaten Greek food they loved it.
We had dinner here on Friday night for the first time. We had the Christmas menu which was excellent value at £20 p/ p for 3 courses. The kleftico which two of our party had was a beautifully cooked, huge shank of lamb. Another of our party had a stuffed chicken breast, which again, was beautifully cooked. I was the only person who could manage desert, but was rewarded with a lovely, creamy, rice pudding dish. The staff were very friendly, and nothing was too much bother for them. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant to all my friends
Good service who enjoy their job and want to help you enjoy yourself. Food was very good. Possibly do with some hot plates to keep dishes warm if having the mixed dish menu. would certainly return.
A taste of greek in Hope Street.
I have dined in this restaurant a few times now. Overall the food is good, but the choice of accompaniments with the dishes seems wholly limited to Rice or Roast potatoes. When my plus one asked if she could have boiled potatoes instead, we were told no because they only buy a certain kind of potato that is only good for roasting...........a bit lame we thought. The tables are very close together and tight to the walls not leaving much room for the diner to have a quiet conversation or stretch out a little. The food was a little bland and a little sparce. A little mound of rice and one potato and 6 meatballs left me still hungry. The service was good but not great. A good restaurant but could be so much better.
Lovely place. Staff extra helpful, food good. Made for a pleasant night out.
Our first visit to a Greek restaurant for many years. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Good choice on menu reasonably priced. Good service. Would definitely go back if in Glasgow.
Very enjoyable.basic food we'll enough presented.discount offer made the overall price fair and reasonable.would go again
Night out with friends, great food, worth every penny!

Athena Greek Taverna
Really nice food, especially the grilled meat. Service was alright, but the room was very noisy. Recommended if you don't mind the noise.
Enjoyable enuff meal but on requesting bill, toptable's 25% discount on food element was all of a sudden forgotten until I sent the bill back for amendment!
