Apsley's A Heinz Beck RestaurantConsistently excellentStill underrated I suspect, becauise always possible to get a table!Always superb food and very pleasant and efficient service, great ambience.10/05/2013 00:00:00elegant & deliciousI can not find any fault with Apsleys, beautiful decor, exquisite food, lots of choice, and a plate refill without asking (for the greedy monkeys like me)
Im more of a sandwich person, than a cake person, and the choice of fillings was superb. My favourites were the egg (brioche bread i think) and the coronation chicken. The staff are very professional and friendly, and I wouldnt hesitating in recommending anyone to go here for a special occasion or just a 'because I'm worth it' treat!
we upgraded to the champagne afternoon tea, and at £54 including service charge, it is by no means a bargain, but truly worth it for the loveliness of it all!10/05/2013 00:00:00Had the tasting menu. FoodHad the tasting menu. Food was fantastic. Service and ambience outstanding. Would highly recommend.05/05/2013 00:00:00Great Food In A Quality RestaurantA lovely evening, good choice on the set menu, really good wine selected by the sommelier. Fantastic staff!05/05/2013 00:00:00Posh and PriceyMust be doing something right as we came back for a special occasion. Luxurious and pricey ambience redolent of a Victorian gentlemen's London club.27/04/2013 00:00:00First class toptable offerFirst class toptable offer 39GBP for three courses. We rounded this up with a couple of glasses of champers, a G&T and a decent glass of wine for me, plus coffee and petit fours (and a surprise birthday cake for me) - plus usual amuse bouche/sorbet. All in ? 170GBP inc service for two. Good value for 3* michelin cooking on a Saturday evening. Food was very good. A useful starter of cod, followed up by some excellent beef for main and polenta for Mrs A was nothing short of mindblowing. First class cheescake sorbet leading into some solid dessert offerings. But it's the service that makes it here. In short, probably the best I've ever experienced in terms of run and 'floor flow'. Neither intrusive nor haughty but balanced and spot on.27/04/2013 00:00:00Great food, but no welcome drink? We had a fantastic time at Apsley's - the food was outstanding, but there are two things that left a bitter taste:
1) I reserved via toptable and booked the lunch with a complimentary glass of prosecco. Upon arrival to the restaurant, we were offered an appetitive and when I said that I had booked the option with a glass of prosecco included, they told me that that was not what they got from the site and refused to serve us the glass of prosecco. Wrong attitude in my opinion!
2) I asked the sommelier to recommend a wine on the £50-60 range, but he insisted on the £70-250 one and I decided to chose my own wine, which I must say was fantastic - a Montepulciano 2006 for £60.
That said, the setting is beautiful and the food was to die for.27/04/2013 00:00:007 StarsBeen here many times. They make you feel very special which makes it a great first date choice if you are determined to impress!26/04/2013 00:00:00We came here for lunch andWe came here for lunch and had the set lunch menu. The presentation is outstanding as is the food quality. Portions are a tad on the small side. Extensive wine list and immaculate service. My only gripe is that some of the tables are a bit too close together. Well worth trying.26/04/2013 00:00:00lovely teaWhat could be better? Lots of good food and charming service. Recommend very highly25/04/2013 00:00:00The food at Apsley's was absolutelyThe food at Apsley's was absolutely fantastic. The service was also excellent, and while it looks pretty expensive, it's actually well worth the money (particularly the £45 three course set dinner menu). Definitely one for the special occasion shortlist.25/04/2013 00:00:00beautiful place, good foodRight, so I am a very fussy eater... and this place was good. It is exactly what you would expect from a michelin star restaurant - elegant looking food with surprising and creative menu.
If you are looking for Jamie's style of food - this place is not for you. If you are looking for Italian with a twist, and can appreciate cooking mastery - this place will not disappoint.24/04/2013 00:00:00Afternoon TeaThis was a lovely area to have Afternoon Tea in! Had some champagne and strawberries before the traditional afternoon tea with a Lanesborough blend. It's a bit expensive but with the old and magnificent environment, the whole experience is worth it. Well worth a visit!24/04/2013 00:00:00Good food and great serviceArrived and was shown to our table immediately.
Waiters were very nice and courteous. Chose 5-course taster menu.
Food presentation was great and taste met or exceeded my standard for 1 Michelin star. Ambience was nice in terms of lighting and decor (very enjoyable however, was not under purple lighting shown in various foodie/restaurant websites).
Chef provided extra surprises in between courses and a cake at the end for my girlfriend's birthday. She, as an native Italian, was also very pleased with the food.
Great all around!23/04/2013 00:00:00recommended great foodFood was delicious service was great. no complaints what so ever!!21/04/2013 00:00:00Being no fan of italian cuisineBeing no fan of italian cuisine did not expect much... The place lived up to my expectations... For those who enjoy italian stuff20/04/2013 00:00:00Fantastic food and serviceVery much enjoyed the 3 course set menu and the additional 2 little 'pre' bits. Beautiful surroundings and top notch service all evening long.20/04/2013 00:00:00ApsleysExactly what you'd expect. Great food in a lovely setting. Quite expensive, but that's hardly a surprise given the venue etc. A real treat, and i'd definitely recommend it. Staff were really friendly too. Would definitely go back.20/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing Afternoon TeaWhat can I say? From the initial impressions coming into the grand dining room to the amazing food and brilliant (attentive yet unobtrusive) service I cannot recommend Apsley's highly enough! The little touches make all the difference, and the crowning success was the special birthday plate brought out for my partner as a surprise at the end despite me only having mentioned in passing that it was her birthday. Just a wonderful day and very much enjoyed. I will be recommending Apsley's to all!20/04/2013 00:00:00Dinner at Apsley's was veryDinner at Apsley's was very enjoyable, but the price was a little bit over the top. Still worth going to give yourself a treat in special occasions.19/04/2013 00:00:00Very enjoyable dinnerWonderful room, excellent service and very good food at the going rate for one-starred restaurants in London. Add to that the soothing ambience of the Lanesborough and its very comfortable bar. All makes for a very pleasant and enjoyable meal experience. Happy to recommend and return.18/04/2013 00:00:00perfect setting, delicious mealWe had looked forward to going to Apsley's for a while and we had a wonderful evening
the location and setting are beautiful, the service was exemplary and the food was amazing
we love Italian food and the opportunity to expereicen fine Italian dining of this quality is one we will certainly take up again one day
all four courses were delicious, memorable and visually stunning18/04/2013 00:00:00a true experienceI was at dinner with a friend and we enjoyed every bite of every dish! The seabass in crust if legendary, but also any pasta dish is unforgettable. From the kitchen a few entre' came without any order and at the end of th emeal they brought us a selection of little biscuits without any order for dessert. Very creative, very special. Heros in the kitchen is a magician.11/04/2013 00:00:00perfecta fantastic opportunity and an excellent experience06/04/2013 00:00:00A real treat; a restful lunchA real treat; a restful lunch in the heart of London with attention to detail at the highest level. Not only were our dishes exquisitely presented and full of flavour, but every request that had been made at the time of booking was executed without reminder. Both the kitchen and the front of house demonstrated that it was genuinely their delight to give us pleasure as we dined, with nothing being too much trouble. We enjoyed all the benefits associated with the restaurant of a well established traditional hotel yet there was nothing stuffy or outdated about our experience. We would certainly hope to dine there again, being confident of its suitability for all manner of occasions from a quiet midday lunch to a celebratory dinner.05/04/2013 00:00:00Afternoon tea with 3 teenagersLovely experience in a warm and very friendly athmosphere. A genuine feeling of being welcome in, all the way from the door to the table. Not only for the adults, but also for the three teenagers (girls 16 - 19 years), who rated the afternoon tea as one of the top three activities during the London stay (the other two - Abercrombie&Fitch and Victoria's secret...).
Again, thank you!03/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent and still too little knowAs usual, really outstanding food and really excellent choice of wines with the tasting menu. Very good service too. Why is it not busier?!01/04/2013 00:00:00an easter feastWe had a really special afternoon - initially we were not offered the top-table deal. - They changed this without complaint. This was a massive saving of over £10 per-person the only difference was Champagne changed for Italian sparkling, which was actually really good, this served from a magnum bottle. Dessert was served from an easter egg.01/04/2013 00:00:00Good food great ambianceI chose this to celebrate my 60th birthday with 2 special friends and we enjoyed every moment of the evening. The food was very tasty and artfully presented. Had a special treat from the chef - a mini birthday cake after meals. It had the most diverse and extensive wine list. I was able to choose one that I loved and within my budget. It was a delightful evening.29/03/2013 00:00:00Apsley's is brilliantI have been to Apsley's a few times and it always delivers. The food is creative, the service impeccable and everybody always has a great time. The dining room itself is so impressive that I would recommend it to anyone who wants to impress others.29/03/2013 00:00:00Special birthday celebrationI booked this restaurant as I've been to events at the hotel before and loved it. Its very grand but the staff are lovely. The meal was good and the service was excellent.28/03/2013 00:00:00Great bread and petit foursThe restaurant is in a beautiful space, with glass dome and chandeliers, plush upholstery and elegantly set tables. We opted for the Menu del Giorno and each course, including the amuse bouche, was presented like a piece of art. If only the taste of the main courses was as pleasing. The cod was not as fresh as it should be. The beef had little flavour. What a waste of the chefs' culinary talents! What a waste of the chefs' culinary talents! They served a good variety of bread (6 different types in total) and these were excellent. So were the petit fours. If you wish to experience the opulence and elegance, perhaps the afternoon tea may be a better bet. I hope that was an "off" day (Wednesday lunch) that we experienced.27/03/2013 00:00:00Consistently GoodWe have eaten here a number of times, both a la carte and on weekend lunchtime deals and we have always enjoyed the experience. Food and service are what you would hope for in a high end restaurant, excellent. Surroundings are calm and relaxed. The weekend deal of £35 for 3 courses inc a glass of franciacorta from one of the best cantinas compares with many gastro pubs in price, but the food is far better. Wine, water and coffee can certainly hike the bill up but IMO this is good value for a lovely meal.24/03/2013 00:00:00top class serviceamazing and very attentive, personal service. great wine recommendations by sommelier. food was very good, only dessert was disappointing because it was too modern (powdered this and that) and not substantial enough - maybe thats just down to the lunch menu offer. Whilst the choice of food may be satisfying some and not others, the service is amazing and that is what makes the place. recommend.24/03/2013 00:00:00We had the 3 courses deal,We had the 3 courses deal, outstanding value! The good was fabulous, great slection and unbelievable that they were doing it for under £40 per person! It's a really nice setting and a great place for a rainy Saturday afternoon lunch!23/03/2013 00:00:00Ate dinner and afternoon tea.Ate dinner and afternoon tea. Both were world class. But price was reasonable compared to other Michelin star rated restaurants.23/03/2013 00:00:00Superb!We booked intending to have the Toptable offer but when we saw the a la carte we decided to have the 5-course taster menu (£65). We spent more than we intended but every course was delicious. Scallops, turbot, lamb - it was all good.
Service was second to none.21/03/2013 00:00:00I booked the Apsley restaurantI booked the Apsley restaurant as a surprise for my husbands birthday. The hotel is really beautiful. We were looked after by the staff who were very professional and made the evening exceptional. Would definitely return to enjoy a meal at the restaurant again.17/03/2013 00:00:00Amazing!!!Highly recommendable; service was great and food oustanding; the atmosphere of the restaurant is very calm and the interiour is beautiful17/03/2013 00:00:00A really nice afternoonWe had a very nice afternoon, everything was lovely and very good service.17/03/2013 00:00:00As ever a stunning setting,As ever a stunning setting, meal and atmosphere. The staff catered for our many and varied needs and two of our group, who had never eaten anywhere similar, were absolutely blown away. For me, it was simply business as usual - our favourite restaurant in London never ever fails to deliver.16/03/2013 00:00:00AZThe overall experiance was very good, the food and the service.
the only thing was that I only asked for one bottle of still water.
But when we finished our glasses, they didn't ask but opened another one for us.
So we were being charged for two bottles, although i still think we only had one bottle of still water.
i guess they did offer to remove one bottle of water from the total bill.
So my overall experiance was not affect by this.
I think i'll visit the restaurant again in the future.16/03/2013 00:00:00Had a lovely meal. ServiceHad a lovely meal. Service was good and the food was brilliant.16/03/2013 00:00:00Great, but expensive wineTook up the 3 courses plus a glass of Italian fizz offer. For the quality of the food and the location and setting the offer is good value, but the winelist is scary - there are only a handful of bottles below £100 - and wine by the glass is £15-£25. So budget twice the food bill for wine plus service.15/03/2013 00:00:00trex says2 course for £25 was delicious but cannot compete against Koffman 2 course for £21. Koffman wins handsdown everytime for taste and value. Since the 2 are so close to each other, why would anyone pay more. Also, Koffman is more well known and cooks French to perfection. How well is Heinz Beck known for Italian? If his reputation exceeds Koffman's, then he can charge more than Koffmans. So, not yet.15/03/2013 00:00:00superbJust fantastic, one of my favourite places. We spent an entire afternoon here, lazily eating lunch. Everything was perfect.15/03/2013 00:00:00Birthday DinnerMy wife, daughter, and I were meeting in London, and it was my wife's birthday. We got a three course special for £45 (we could have ordered off the a la carte menu but the specials were great) . It was a terrific meal. Service was very attentive. At these substantial prices, it may be picky to note, but it would be nice to have a few wines at the £20-30 level for a full bottle.13/03/2013 00:00:00Good value and excellent foodOne might describe Apsley's as not having a trendy reputation but in short it quietly goes about the business of producing superb quality food in a dining area with refined ambience. Each course from the set menu was a work of art and quite delicious. There is a fine selection of courses from the set menu. The bread is good also.
You can even hear yourself talk as, unlike many often expensive restaurants, the tables are well spaced and there is an air of calm. Take coffee in the pleasant and relaxed hotel lounge after the meal.
The only criticism must be the high cost of wine, the cheapest bottle costing £30; definitely not good or reasonable value.11/03/2013 00:00:00Perfect againI have now dined here 5/6 times using tasting menu and Top Table menu, it has always been faultless.10/03/2013 00:00:00Afternoon Tea for Mother's DayIt was an absolute joy - Mum and I had a brilliant time. We couldn't fault the service, the staff were lovely, and the cakes were perfect, really artisan and delicious sandwiches too. The dining room is really beautiful, perfect for a special occasion. Loved Geoff on the piano too, really made it. Already planning a return trip for my birthday - this time Mum will be treating me!10/03/2013 00:00:00
