A word from Angelus Restaurant
Named after the Angelus Bell, this “bistro de luxe” is located in one of London’s last working mews. Formally the site of an old pub, the Art-Déco interiors have been cleverly incorporated into the original architecture of this early 19th century building. Dark wood, sumptuous fabrics and elaborate mirrors help create the atmosphere of a very elegant brasserie, yet the ambiance and service is welcoming and relaxed. Focusing on select favourites, the menu will include starters of Crème brulée au foie gras, followed by examples of fish and meat like Fillet of cod with chorizo, broccoli, grilled spring onions, toasted almond milk and brandade or Roast rump of Salt Marsh lamb, blanquette of shoulder and sweetbreads, seasonal vegetables.
Located next door to the Hyde Park Stables and just minutes from the Park itself, Angelus is the perfect place to enjoy an atmospheric brunch, lunch or dinner, or just a relaxing snack after a stroll through one of the most famous parks in London.

Diner Reviews
  • "Food while of high standard is not worth what they charge- over £200 for 2 people. Get much better food, value and service at likes of Coq D' Argent or Chez Bruce. Portions are small and don't expect to come out feeling you've been well fedt. Service was pretty poor considering there were only 3 other diners- slow in topping up the wine and despite me putting on reservation that it was girlfriend's birthday they didn't do anything (unlike other restaurants i've been to). All in all exceedingly disappointing and wouldn't go back. They can do much much better and you can find much better out there."

  • "And that's one of the many reasons that makes this a great find...let's keep it 'hidden'!"

  • "The food was served in nouveau cuisine style slimline portions and charged at obese prices. Beautifully presented, delicate flavours, but lacked robustness and conviction. The service was a little patronising on the part of the French, but the Italian was charming. The place is owned apparently by someone is who half French and half English. Not sure of the signfiicance of this, but it is a lovely spot and could simply be much more popular if it charged a little less. But then maybe it doesn't want to be more any more popular than it already is."

  • "Excellent choice close to Paddington station tucked away in a quiet street. Good food, attentive service and reasonable value."

  • "Outstanding 3 course lunch menu deal worth a trip for. The pork with potato rosti was particularly good as was the dessert - chocolate parfait with almond honeycomb and raspberry sauce - delicious."

  • "We spent two hours in this wonderful restaurant. Very godd service, marvellous food. One of our best dinner during our week in London Will come back !!! Bernard"

  • "We visited for my birthday lunch on the recommendation of a friend who lives round the corner and we were not disappointed. There is an interesting fixed price menu but as it was a special occasion we went a la carte - the ducks liver creme brulee starter was to die for and the rest was pretty good too! Wine also excellent. Highly recommended!"

  • "My friends and I had a fantastic evening at Angelus. The staff are so helpful and go out of their way to make the evening really enjoyable for you, it always feels like a special occasion. As ever the food was divine, we each tried a different starter and different main and all insisted that ours was the best! The shared desert platter was sublime and the new idea of the selection of dessert wines is very good, although maybe should not have had them on a work night! I can't wait to go back for another delightful meal and to be made to feel so very special by the team at Angelus."

  • "An intimate, romantic little restaurant in the best of French tradition. I would definitely go back to enjoy a special evening of fine food."

  • "This was an excellent place for a business lunch - unobtrusive service and excellent food. The early start of 11.30 was particularly useful to us."

  • "Another fantastic meal at Angelus on Saturday evening with outstanding wine to match. The staff took great care of us and we had a brilliant evening as ever - thank you!"

  • "When we lived in the area we'd find any excuse for a dinner at Angelus. Now that we've moved, we still manage to find reasons to travel in for dinner. The service is always great, the menu, which is updated regularly, is always delicious, and you can rely on recommendations from the extensive wine list whatever your budget."

  • "I love Angelus: charming decor, excellent food and superb wine list, and competent service combined in one place are not easy to find in my experience of London restaurants. The bar at the back of the restaurant offers a nice introduction to the evening. The only two things that could be improved are that the tables for two are a little too close to each other and the bread could be more a little more varied. Recommended."

  • "We found ourselves staying near Lancaster Gate and this restaurant had a high rating on review sites. What a treat!! The restaurant did not disappoint and exceeded expectations. Perhaps the finest French food available in London?! We have already made another reservation and will be recommending it to others. Wonderful."

  • "This was one of many delicious meals we have enjoyed at Angelus. The food is always a level above most of the French restaurants or bistros we have tried in London, and always a shade more inventive without being pretentious. Further, we have often dined there with our teenaged children, and the staff is unfailingly accommodating. Owner Theirry is absolutely welcoming and charming. In all, a dining experience that is a level above the competition."

  • "Every aspect was extremely good, although the house wine at £8 for 125ml was on the high side, even though it was good."

  • "This is a genuine French restaurant with real French cuisine served with style and quality. Deserves the highest rate its category."

  • "Consistently good food coupled with a really interesting wine list made easy by exceptional advice makes eating here a real pleasure."

  • "Overall good service - Good food - too much bread served! The lounge light is too low."

  • "We are a young couple and came to have a dinner on my birthday. Menu looked impressive and my husband really relied on the positive reviews of Angelus on this website. BUT! There was no music, tables were very close to each other, the lights were too bright and there was virtually no ventilation despite the cold weather outside it felt stuffy. We sat down and after few minutes realised it was a torture. We actually heard other people chewing even though the sat far away from us. We have spotted a speaker, but waiter said he cannot put any music on. Shame!! This restaurant has a very high potential as it has an excellent menu, but sorry it is no good as a place to eat... The prices are also high, so they could have made an effort."

  • "Dinner at Angelus is always special - great service, great food and great ambience - thanks for a fantastic evening"
    dined on 04/01/2014
  • "The food was just not very good. I had a huge ravioli that didn't taste like anything, at over 10 quid. The mains were similarly disappointing, just a general lack of taste. Over 100 pounds for 2 people, no wine, no desserts. Very friendly service, though. Would not go back."
    dined on 23/10/2013
  • "Food was beautifully presented & flavours complemented each other wonderfully. Lovely meal & while wouldn't describe as child friendly they were all charming to my small daughters. The recommended wine was outstanding."

  • "The lunch set menu had a good variety and was excellent value. The food and service was very good and the surroundings were delightful. Would definitely use it again."

  • "I would definitely recommend this place. I had a great experience. Food was excellent and staff was very friendly, trying to please us in many different ways. By the way, the lamb dish is fantastic!"

  • "We have a wonderful Christmas dinner tradition at this restaurant and were not disappointed this time around. Excellent service, food and wine and a lovely atmosphere very conducive to conversation. We'll be back!"

  • "This was a good restaurant a visit is a must, depending on your income go for a celebration treat or a few times a year."
    dined on 12/12/2013
  • "I took some friends to this restaurant, having read an article about it in France magazine, but not having had a personal recommendation I did not know what to expect. The food for all four of us was simply outstanding and we all argued that our particular course was the best, so we'll just have to go back and sample more another time. The service was attentive but completely unobtrusive and the waiter and waitress were charming. There was an extremely comprehensive wine list. I was a little doubtful about the décor when we first arrived because it looked a little like a pub (which, indeed, it used to be) but it grew on me and the restaurant wasn't noisy, unlike some modern minimalist restaurants."
    dined on 21/11/2013
  • "Unfortunately we were next to a table of very noisy girls and since the restaurant is small, it was not possible reseat us. The food is good but for a dinner quite expensive. Fixed price menu at lunch would probably be much better value."
    dined on 11/12/2013
  • "Lovely imaginative food, beautifully presented and all very tasty. Excellent value for a definitely cut above average lunch. Many thanks"

  • "The food was fantatsic, with a varied menu to suit all tastes. The service was impeccable, and we felt like the only people in the resturant with their attentiveness."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "The food was good and what was expected from the reviews and the ambience also was good. However, the Maitre d' and waiter were so miserable and unwelcoming. We would not return for that reason. Thankfully the woman who retrieved our coats was friendly and smiling. A good restaurant let down by front of house."
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "The set lunch is a great value - not only is the food excellent, but the portion sizes are just right. The goat cheese salad was a bit uninspired as far as the greens are concerned, but the cheese and flaky crust were very good. We both had the fish entree and it was very tasty. With coffee and petit fours included in the price, we spent a relaxing time and enjoyed the ambience. And even when the room became crowded, our table felt quiet and private."
    dined on 26/11/2013
  • "White linen, attentive staff – great ambience. If you consider yourself a foodie, this place is a must. The wine list doesn't have a bottom to it, so if you feel like splashing out this is definitely the place for you. Having said that, the house red was decent. The menu had couple of safe options with modern twist, plenty of fish and some dishes that would not appeal to mainstream clientele, but would attract true foodies."
    dined on 25/11/2013
  • "Excellent restaurant experience. Food + service is on the level of any of the Michelin star restaurants in London. Service was exceptional. Friendly, down-to-earth and with a team that certainly takes pride in its food. Atmosphere is elegant + cozy without being overly pretentious. A great find."

  • "A very good and well run restaurant. Pleasing decor and nice atmosphere. Excellent Maitre D. Warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Sets an excellent tone. Very good French food. Not cheap but you largely get what you pay for. I would definitely dine here again."
