Angels with Bagpipes
Angels with Bagpipes dinnerMy husband and I went on Friday 17/05/13 for an evening meal for our Wedding Anniversary. The interior is modern and light and bright. There was something for everyone on the menu. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. There is a room with a big table for a group booking on the lower floor. The ambience is relaxed and welcoming. The kitchen is visible and busy. A lovely place for a special occasion. I would definitely recommend.17/05/2013 00:00:00FantasticVery welcoming, the service perfect. The English wine was outstanding. It proved to be the best meal during this visit, taste and presentation wonderful. Have to come back soon!14/05/2013 00:00:00Good Food, Good PlaceMany eating areas within the restaurant give a cosy and intimate feel to a meal there. The food was very good and choice just enough. Enjoyed the whole evening immensely.11/05/2013 00:00:00Top Quality FoodExcellent food in a friendly atmosphere at a reasonable price.11/05/2013 00:00:00Exciting Food at a reasonable priceI can't wait to go back to this restaurant. I visited with my sister. We're both foodies. Our starters were exciting and well presented. We both had steak and chips which were very tasty. The dessert menu is to die for. It took a while to make a choice. I would highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back there to try the rest of the menu!11/05/2013 00:00:00Very special nightWe've had duck and steak tartar, very well done, and the service is fantastic, with very helpful crew. The wine lis is not to long (not boring to long) and with good varietu, we took a white english time for the first time. Beautiful place!09/05/2013 00:00:00Great food!!Lovely food, great service and atmosphere. We went pre-theatre.05/05/2013 00:00:00Great restaurantWe went for a special birthday . Food was excellent as was the service. The staff were attentive but not in your face. The menu choice was small but expertly put together . It was not as expensive as we thought.05/05/2013 00:00:00We were given meal vouchersWe were given meal vouchers for the restaurant as part of our Golden Wedding present. We found the exterior did not do the restaurant justice . The interior was much better than we were expecting. Whilst the food on the menu was good we felt that we would have preferred a bigger selection. Compaired to the very large wine selection the food menu was very small. We unfortunately were seated close to a larger party who were very vocal, but in fairness the waitress did offer to move us.05/05/2013 00:00:00Surpassed all our expectationsHaving spent a lot of time searching for somewhere special to eat, I hoped AwB would live up to all the glowing reviews. It did - and more! The food was absolutely delicious while the soup was just 'something else' and will remain a talking point for a long time!! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to try great food.04/05/2013 00:00:00No demons here!Fantastic food for that very special occasion, we enjoyed every mouthful, a taste sensation and wonderful friendly service. Fully recommend the Violet Mascapone!. Delicious. Will definitely revisit AwB when we next return to Edinburgh.03/05/2013 00:00:00Great mealThis is the second time I have visited and was most impressed again, good food, good service, what more can you ask for!26/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent!Fantastic food - (particularly the haggis to start!) and comprehensive wine list. Would thoroughly recommend to others as it serves up great quality in the heart of Edinburgh.25/04/2013 00:00:00Michelin Star cuisineSimply fantastic food with the best of Scottish local produce but with an innovative twist. A stroke of genious.
I loved being surprised by the flavours in old time favourites such as scallops or lamb.
The food was simply superb and the service was also outstanding.
I would definitely recommend it and I think it offers Michellin Star value without the price tag.20/04/2013 00:00:00My 30th birthday mealFood was delicious. Lamb and duck were the main courses that my boyfriend and I chose, an they were both outstanding!
The setting upstairs is lovely, very unique and ambient.
I would definitely recommend.19/04/2013 00:00:00Very Nice Despite the PriceNot my usual type of haunt but decided that my wife was worth something a bit fancier for her 40th. The food was delicious particularly the haggis starter. My wife's fish was not as hot as she'd have liked but it seemed trivial to mention it when th taste was excellent. I like a bit more food on my plate normally but I'm not going to quibble over that as the service, taste, ambience and overall experience was very good. Perhaps next time I'll get myself a dessert!19/04/2013 00:00:00Amazong dinnerViewing from outside we can't imagine the marvelous we will find at Angel's tables.
Oustantanding food and service!18/04/2013 00:00:00A foodies delightA lovely, intimate restaurant for a special occasion at affordable prices. The stone bass was delicious with an exceptionally tasty sauce, every mouthful I savoured. My daughter had the duck breast and it was also exceptional. Although not an extensive menu every dish was clearly a well thought out and original. Desserts were similarly delicious. The service was also just perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back.14/04/2013 00:00:00perfect end to a perfect dayA warm yet professional welcome awaited us. We arrived a liitle early for our table, but the Maitre managed to seat us right away nonetheless. The haggis starter was a gem, as was the goat's cheese. The steaks were very tender and cooked exactly to our requirements. The menu caters for the adventurous and the not so adventurous, which is great for groups. There is an extensive wine list, with something for everyone. Service was efficient, professional and unobtrusive. We would certailnly return next time we are in Edinburgh.13/04/2013 00:00:00DinnerFood was very tasty and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent wine list. Good variety of Scottish produce. Central location. Would definitely return and have already recommended to friends.07/04/2013 00:00:00Everytime a winner! My partner and I have been a few times now to the resturant and have never been dissapointed. I decided to take my dad and step mum while they were up visiting and they amazed at the place. Particular favourite of mine for te presentation and the value you pay which is excellent compared to other resturants. The service is great as very laid back and not too in your face with some places I have been. The girl that waited on us had good conversation and put her input on to suggestions and was happy to change a cheese for my dad who didn't want a goats cheese. I think if the resturant was on Princess Steet or someone more central it would be swamped as so good for food. I am defo coming back for another visit and can't wait.06/04/2013 00:00:00Great restaurant - perfect for bdayAngels with bagpipes was a really enjoyable experience. I had read good things on TT and also trip advisor and we weren't dissapointed. It was modern cuisine with some Scottish traditional dishes but updated - exactly what we were after.05/04/2013 00:00:00First classAbsolutely fantastic meal - amazing food and first class service. Perfect setting for a special occasion.04/04/2013 00:00:00Brilliant birthday treatCouldn't have picked anywhere nicer to eat for my birthday. Amazing food and brilliant service. Will definately go again!!31/03/2013 00:00:00Angels with BagpipesExcellent food and great service. Really enjoyable evening.31/03/2013 00:00:00Very Very GoodEnjoyed a lovely two course lunch, relaxing with great service and great food.
Will be back.30/03/2013 00:00:00Angelic experienceHow spoilt did we feel? Booked via Top Table but emailed upfront to request a special table as it was my Fiance's 40th. Ben, the Manager, got in touch and offered The Halo Room which is a beautiful little room that seats up to 4 people in an alcove so it's private without losing the atmosphere of the restaurant. Food was delicious and not as small a portion as some reviews had made out. We ate haggis, steak and fish pie. Heaven! Wine list a little pricey but was still worth it. Our Waiter Sam was very professional, friendly and attentive and we had an amazing evening. Just wish this place was in Birmingham so we could visit more often.29/03/2013 00:00:00Lovely Lunch! What a wonderful experience. A lovely meal of gourmet food with a Scottish twist. Excellent service, an altogether pleasant and comfortable setting. Definitely will visit again. The set lunch was superb value for money.29/03/2013 00:00:00Great foodFabulous menu, great service and a memorable experience. Slightly spoiled by being placed in a cramped corner table. Staff also placed another rude couple next to us when all other tables were vacant.29/03/2013 00:00:00Great set luch dealWe took up the offer of the 3 course lunch. The food was beautiful. It was a great taster for the main menu. Would definitely eat there again.29/03/2013 00:00:00Made our city breakThe restaurant was lovely, perhaps a little chilly but that was because it was very cold outside we think.
Food was delicious though and worth every penny. We were looking for some good quality scottish food for the last night of our city break and A with B didn't disappoint.25/03/2013 00:00:00Perfect EveningWe chose Angels With Bagpipes following a little online research and we were not disappointed. The food was very good and our meal was cooked beautifully. Would definitely visit again and wholeheartedly recommend to anybody visiting Edinburgh.25/03/2013 00:00:00MUST DO IN EDINBURGHVisited this for a special ladies night out. It was a very cold and miserable Tuesday and we had arrived early for our 7PM booking. This was not a problem we were seated and a delightful young lady served us , when we asked about the various dishes she was very knowlegable. The food was exceptional and the sirlion was one of the best I had ever tasted my friends had the duck it was fantastic Desserts were wonderful and I had the mascarpone violet my friends the parfait. The main meal comes just as stated on the menu - you need to order sides . We ordered the thin cut chips and creamed mash to share. What can we some about the mash-OUTSTANDING. One comment when asked for a virgin cocktail was told they did not do them but could make something!19/03/2013 00:00:00Angelic food! Our first visit to Angels with bagpipes but it certainly won't be our last. We had the fixed price seasonal lunch menu which offered a good choice of delicious dishes. Quantities of food were just right and the flavours amazing. Excellent service (attentive but not intrusive) and amazing value for money. You really should try it!16/03/2013 00:00:00Anniversary dinnerChose this restaurant for our wedding anniversary dinner while visiting Edinburgh after reading several reviews. Really enjoyed the night, we ate early as we were heading elsewhere but atmosphere was good and we both really enjoyed the food and house wine was also very good choice. Would certainly visit again when in Edinburgh. Nice and relaxed but special at the same time, a difficult thing to achieve these days.16/03/2013 00:00:00What a great start to ourWhat a great start to our weekend visiting the city.We travelled with friends for whom it was their first visit to the city. Having deposited our bags our first stop was lunch at the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful from the minute we walked in the door. I was quite surprised by the decor which is very modern and quite clinical. It is more business boardroom lunches than old town. The food was sensational. We all opted for the 3 course lunch menu which was superb value. We all drooled at every course. The presentation.Portion size and flavours were all spot on. Delicious. It set us up for an afternoon of exploring.15/03/2013 00:00:00Fine Dining ExperienceEverything was just as you hope it will be - friendly, helpful service, an imaginative menu making the best of Scottish ingredients. Haggis starter matched perfectly by the recommended whisky; lamb, steak and duck all cooked beautifully to our various preferences. A fine dining experience without being stuffy.15/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent!Took my mum and her partner here for Mothers Day lunch having been previously for dinner, it was just as good. The food is absolutely excellent and fair priced for the quality you get. I would say this is the best restaurant I have been to in Edinburgh. Service is excellent, very friendly, efficient staff which add to the overall experience. Would definitely recommend. I will certainly be going back!10/03/2013 00:00:00great angelswe had a lovely meal - the early bird menu was excellent value and quality. I had the soup and fish and chips. the desert was divine, caramel millefeuille. Terrific and friendly service09/03/2013 00:00:00not enough timethat was our problem - we were rushing pre theatre and didn't have time to appreciate the restaurant as we would have liked. The food was beautifully presented and tasted as great as it looked. and the glass of pinot gris from Oz was divine. the staff were courteous and kind, - and everything sparkled! we 're looking forward to going once more, this time, more relaxed..09/03/2013 00:00:00DelicousScallops, venison and violet dessert all utterly delicous & beautifully presented.09/03/2013 00:00:00delishamazing meal. the duck was the absolute best thing ever08/03/2013 00:00:00A gem on the Royal MileHad a wonderful lunch. The atmosphere was magnificent and, as I am disabled, I appreciated that everything was accessible to me. I use walking poles, but the restaurant would be equally accessible if your chariot of choice is a wheelchair. The combination of the staff and cuisine made this a winner!!!
Thanks everyone.05/03/2013 00:00:00Truly delicious food!Quite possibly the best restaurant I have ever eaten in. The food was truly divine! Brilliantly concocted taste sensations, great wine list, nice ambiance and friendly staff. Definitely undercharging for what they are offering!03/03/2013 00:00:00Heavanly FoodReserved a table for 16:00, was greeted by pleasant welcoming staff all of whom said hello as we passed, given exactly amount of time to settle at our table before our drinks order was taken, extensive wine menu catering for all pallets, water served and topped up continuously during our meal,we chose from the normal menu and we were spoiled for choice of starters and main meals,we chose beef tartare and scallops both off which were fabulous, with venison and duck main courses to follow which supassed the starters for quality,we finished off by sharing a cheeseboard which we struggled to finish, all in all a fantastic dining experience in a fantastic restaurant, complemented by polite, informative, efficient staff.02/03/2013 00:00:00Very warm and friendly atmosphereVery warm and friendly atmosphere with excellent staff who were attentive but not intrusive. We both went for the chef's new dish which was billed as a paella and had all the lovely flavours of a paella but with huge finesse and charm and packed full of flavour. Both of us could have chosen any of the dishes on offer from the set lunch menu which was amazing value for money and absolutely delicious. There were good wines in every price range.28/02/2013 00:00:00Do check it outThe food was perfect, the service - fast and friendly. The location is also very central and convenient. Well worth a visit24/02/2013 00:00:00We have eaten here severalWe have eaten here several times when we have been staying at the Witchery just up the road.
Every time the food has been cooked to perfection . I would eat here every time compared with mixed meals we have had at the over rated Witchery .
We have now moved to Edinburgh and will be eating here on a regular basis.24/02/2013 00:00:00Loved the name sooo....booked it!
And as it happens, it was very good! The food was excellent, service very friendly and efficient and not bad value either, thanks!23/02/2013 00:00:00
