A word from André Garrett at Cliveden
André Garrett at Clivedenwas originally the Drawing Room and is a stunning south-facing spacious room which radiates with sunlight and looks out over the nineteenth-century Parterre, the gardens and River Thames. Its classical elegance and fine works of art give it an enviable touch of romance, and bring the history for which Cliveden is famous to life. Lunch and dinner are served here, offering classic English dishes combined with Cliveden's extensive cellar book. At lunchtimes, chose from a table d'hotel seasonal menu (which changes monthly) which offers tremendous value or from the more extensive a la carte selection. At dinner, enjoy award-winning modern classic English cuisine with dishes brimming with fresh seasonal ingredients and local produce. Please note, jeans or sportswear are not permitted at any time. • "Excellent in every way. Wonderful food and service."

  • "A very long lunch for a very special occasion. My son thanked me for the best lunch ever which is not something you hear every day. Have been there before and will go back again."

  • "This is a great location to celebrate a special occasion. Cliveden House is very grand and palatial with expansive grounds. The dining room is very ornate with extremely high ceilings and has a great view of the main garden and also the surrounding area, as the house is located on a hill above the Thames. You are treated like royalty as soon as you arrive and although the service style is very formal the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The menu was slightly limited (around 5 choices per course) but there were some classic dishes to choose from and the food was cooked to perfection."

  • "Came here to celebrate the purchase of my new car from a garage local to Cliveden. Every element of our experience was divine- updated classic dining room was chic but stylish, not too trad but not too'done' with exqusite views and wonderful light. Fellow diners all loving the experience too. Service was superb- charming and polished without being intrusive. All our food was fabulous- inventive without being pretentious- beautifully served, light, and perfectly cooked. We both had fish based courses. Petit fours were DIVINE. whole experience made me feel like a goddess. This place would work equally well for a sexy romantic date as it would for an 80th birthday celebration. Whats not to adore?"

  • "Andre Garrett was fantastic - the food was flavoursome, different and delicious! I would definitely go back. All the waiters were absolutely superb, and made us feel very special. A special thank you to our sommelier, Jason - who was really knowlegeable and enlightening! THANK YOU!"

  • "The food was delicious and we could not fault it. There were a number of exciting choices on the menu. The service was excellent without being intrusive. The experience was first class. A credit to the whole team who made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We went for a special occasion and will certainly make a return visit."

  • "Last time we dined in the evening as a couple and had the tasting menu - this time we returned for the fixed price lunch as a group of four. Another all round quality experience...The dishes were excellent, the service efficient and friendly and the new dining room also looks just as fabulous in the daylight! Highly recommended."

  • "Our experience at Andre Garrett Clivedon was fantastic. Pre dinner drinks in the ambience of the Clivedon hall and the magical dining room was very special. Although expensive, it is the perfect place for a special occasion.n food was beautiful and interesting"

  • ". Beautiful ambiance elegant and atmospheric Cliveden ticked all our boxes apart from the very cold and very MOODY front of restaurant staff member , made us feel uncomfortable as our guests arrived late and she didn't want us to have a drink before dinner. Then she made us wait forever. Beautiful round table in front of the fire beautifully executed food expertly presented. The waiting staff incredible.3rd time we have visited in 3 months we've persuaded stale fans of Cliveden to re-visit and try the new restaurant and restored their faith in a fabulous destination for foodies. Also first time in 25 years of visiting that I have ever seen the restaurant full and buzzing , keep up the good work Andre, we shall return. Highly recommended."

  • "With a table overlooking the garden in a dining room of style and elegance, this is a plerfect setting. The "market menu" is good value for National Trust members (for others there is a £5 per head surcharge), though the wine list is rather pricey. After lunch one can walk around the grounds which were, of course, of national significance before Christine Keeler ever set foot in them."

  • "Loved our meal at Andre Garret. The food was great. I loved the Venison though my wife had mixed feelings about her salmon starter. The atmosphere at Cliveden is always great. We enjoyed drinks in front of the fireplace before our meal. The service was understated and attentive. In other words spot on. Highly recommend."

  • "Great news room and excellent staff. Menu was wide ranging and excellent. Really enjoyed the sole main course and the cheese. Wine list is great."

  • "Absolutely lovely food. We did the tasting menu and would highly recommend as you get to try all of the chef's 'best bits'. We left not feeling overly full but very satisfied. The room where you eat is stunning and very comfy. The only reason I give it four instead of five stars was 1. The price - we paid well over £200 for 2 people with no alcohol. Be warned you have to pay a grounds fee. 2. The service. They had about 20 staff floating about but towards the end we waited 20 minutes between our courses. Also nobody was there no one around to welcome us when we drove up. Don't let that put you off though. The food was divine!"

  • "We went there with good friends to celebrate my husband's birthday, the food, service and surroundings were excellent, I couldn't fault a single thing."

  • "We arrived 10 mins early and asked to have drink in bar. Our drinks had just arrived and we were rushed to table. We picked taster menu. It was rushed to start and then too slow. Our table was booked for 7.30 and by 11 , our desert or coffee hadn't come. We had a driver who was booked to collect us at 10.30, so decided to leave at 11. We have had tasting menus at other hotel and it's always been a wonderful experience. Usually waiters explain each course, here they didn't bother. On payment , they deducted bottle of wine."

  • "From the start of our visit, we were made to feel welcome and special. The service and staff were helpful, sincere and really very nice indeed. The food was divine. The bread was a disappointment for lack of variety and taste. We did enjoy receiving an amuse bouche however, that was delicious. The veggie options for my sister were extremely good. My soup starter was sheer perfection of flavours and texture. The puddings were perhaps not the best I have had. We were made to feel so special and looked after. I cannot wait to visit again. My sister had left her silk scarf behind and they popped it in the post for her and she received it the next day, just before she flew off for the US for three months. So thank you very much indeed Cliveden."

  • "We used to dine at Cliveden reasonably frequently, but upon returning last week for dinner it was terribly disappointing....the car jockey wasn't there to park the car so we had to hobble over the shingle driveway to get in, the fire in the great hall wasnt lit - despite near zero temperatures outside (and asking twice for it to be lit!), the food tasted as if it had been microwaved and was served on a bland dinner service (I think it was plain white, like something from Ikea) that was too hot to touch unless you wished to burn your skin off. There were so many tables crammed into the dining room, with only 3 of them occupied, that it felt a little bit like a very up market, but upopular, cafe! Average designer food - nothing special."

  • "Champagne in the great hall prior to taking our table was as wonderful as ever: in our opinion it has the best open fireplace in England! The dining room was brilliant; one of the grandest most beautiful we have had the pleasure of being in. The tasting menu was amazing as were the accompanying wines. The meal was a journey of wonderful flavours and textures, being contemporary yet subtle, new yet familiar: the wines exceptionally well matched with some nice surprises. The staff were great and entertaining with very fine knowledge of the food and wine menus. It was a great night and reassuringly expensive without being excessively so, on the whole preferable to the Fat Duck and Waterside Inn, and on a par with Le Manoir."

  • "The restaurant certainly lived to its expectations to say the least! I had looked at the menu prior to our arrival at Cliveden and instantly knew I wanted to go for the French inspired tasting menu (7 courses) - on the day my partner and I decided to add the matching wines and I am so glad we did as we had a fabulous experience. The food was refined yet generous, the service impeccable and the wines to die for. Not a cheap meal but absolutely worth it."

  • "Dinner was an absolute delight. All of the food was well thought through and taste of it was sublime. This was complemented with an excellent service - one thing I hate the most in restaurants are the interruptions. Here that simply did not happen. All of the staff paid attention and if they noticed that one was eating, or in the middle of conversation, they just discretely passed by, checking that everything is in order, but not interrupting. Coupled with a lovely atmosphere, this made an evening to remember and hopefully repeat, as soon as possible... Highly recommended..."

  • "We have stayed and dined at Cliveden for many years. Our visit this week gave us an additional pleasant surprise. The standard at "the House" has always been good, but the improvement in menu, and especially cuisine, was most noteworthy, the staff engaged in an informative, amusing and knowledgeable manner, further enhancing the dining experience in such a splendid setting. One of our number contributes as a Secret Diner, and commented that in his estimation, it compared on an even footing with some noteworthy establishments charging twice as much. Will we return ? ............. really not sure. Not sure that is, whether it will be this week or next week........ but return we most definitely will, and as soon as possible."

  • "Must say that we have had one of the best dinning experiences we have ever had. Greeted at the car by a man with a umbrella and walking us into the hotel in a light rain shower made us feel very special. When inside we where greeted by a lady who toke our coats and knew our names and welcomed us. ( easy to do but again felt very special) When we sat at our table and enjoyed a glass of champagne while we reading the menu and once the food started to come we where very impressed by the service from all members of staff. We have stayed at some of the worlds best hotels and eaten in some of the best resterants in the country and the Cliveden is up there with the best of them. We will be coming back Well done Cliveden good job all round."

  • "We hadn't eaten at Clivesen since Waldo's closed and had a pleasant surprise. The quality and flavours of the A La Carte menu were excellent, coupled with good presentation. This standard is good for a rosette, but service is not quite there yet. Attention to detail is slightly off for Michelin standard dining! but the staff and management are receptive to constructive comment and we will definitely be going back. This is a major improvement over the old Terrace Restaurant. I should finish with some comments on the wine list which is both interesting and sensibly priced. It's a joy to see a keen sommelier bring intelligence and common sense and, most importantly, good drinking to a wine list. Lots of sensibly priced interesting wines."

  • "We dined as a couple the Friday evening before Christmas. We booked because we had heard that Andre Garrett had joined the Cliveden/Chewton Glen team; we had the tasting menu. The food was delicious. The new decor in the dining room is very chic but comfortable. The service was great...a good balance of friendly and efficient. We will be back! Thank you for a lovely evening."

  • "We recently visited cliveden for the first time since the refurbishment and Andrè Garrett joining. It was good before but now it seems to have raised its game to the next level! The staff are outstanding, they really know their stuff and nothing is too much trouble. I wanted 2 dishes that weren't even on the menu and the staff/chef accommodated both without batting an eyelid, each one of them outstanding quality. To summarise I would say that the food is now of Michelin quality but the real difference for me was the staff, they made it special, were very knowledgable, professional and really went the extra mile - special thanks to Miranda!"

  • "Service was outstanding. All our special requests were fulfilled. Food was fantastic and, for 3 courses, was great value. Amazing surroundings, but still relaxed. Christmas tree added a very special touch."

  • "Restaurant transformed after recent makeover My first visit since the lounge restaurant was brought up to date in mid November 13. A splendid job. Lovely furnishings, great layout. It now has that special feeling all good restaurants have. Food is moving along nicely as well, I should add. The three course Lunch for £28 is excellent value. Wines as ever wonderful. Well done... Cliveden, keep up the good work."

  • "We chose the tasting menu, which was excellent, and also opted for the wine flight, which had some very nice selections, especially the "Ice Cider" with the dessert. We agreed that it was one of the best we had ever had, despite having eaten in many good restaurants in the UK and France."
    dined on 17/12/2013
  • "We enjoyed our Sunday lunch very much. Impeccable food and service in a magnificent dining room reflecting the glory and heritage of Cliveden. There was a wide choice of options for our three course lunch with coffee / tea plus " bonbons" - and at £50 per person this was excellent value. Highly recommended."

  • "I had lunch with my brother and his wife to celebrate my 77th birthday. It was one of the best lunches ever. The main restaurant has been refurbished in a very light manner - a change from the previous red colour scheme. The service was superb - very attentive and friendly. The snooty atmosphere of bygone days had been replaced by staff from Greece, Hungary and France - all were excellent. The main lounge was the place to start the visit with cocktails. It was lovely to soak up the history of Cliveden as we sipped our gin and tonics. Ny brother said that it was the best lunch eve. I agreed. I will certainly have lunch and afternoon tea there sometime in the New Year. It will be even better when the Spring and Summer comes."

  • "Absolutely fabulous lunch for husband's 40th. Wonderful new decor, comfy chairs, great food and a wonderful setting. Thoroughly recommended, we chose from the Market menu - really good value."
    dined on 28/11/2013
  • "Each course of our meal was excellent - the flavours were divine, presentation of the food was extremely good and the menu was seasonal with great choice. The surroundings are beautiful but it was a little quiet in the restaurant so some could feel that a bit of atmosphere was lacking. However, this shouldn't put anyone off - it isn't somewhere to go for the 'buzz' - the food and stunning dining room are more than enough. The three course meal including coffee/tea at £65 is extremely well priced. The service was super attentive and could maybe have been a little bit less full-on, but all members of staff were polite and professional. I would definitely recommend this and we will return - we love our food and this is a real treat."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "We are the set menus, with three choices on each course. It was outstanding value at £28. Of course, wine, water and coffee bumped up the price, but it was still fantastic value for the food ambiance and service."
