Alma De CubaAlma de CubaGreat ambience due to sensitive adaptation of former church and careful attention to levels of lighting. Good food and super cocktails.
We were lucky that the evening we were there the members of a large A Capella choir from Norway were eating there and they sang informally throughout the evening. The background music was promptly turned off by restaurant staff whenever they started to sing and reinstated afterwards. Brilliant!09/05/2013 00:00:00Fantastic venueLovely meal at a wonderful venue! The converted church is beautiful and the standard of the food was very high! Expensive but worth it.25/04/2013 00:00:00Alma de CubaGreat place for a different night out. Amazing building, church has converted beautifully to provide a restaurant in fantastic surrounding. Food is well presented, reasonably priced and plenty of choice. Staff were all very helpful, pleasant and attentive. Would recommend.19/04/2013 00:00:00Great TimeHad a lovely meal and time.We went to celebrate two birthdays.I took my elderly parents who loved the meal and really enjoyed the Soul Singers. I have been twice now and food has been delicious and the portions are massive.Yumm!
Will defiantly be going back.14/04/2013 00:00:00Great food and buzzing atmosphereThe food was really tasty and well presented and the service attentive. We enjoyed how loud and socialble it was. The 11 o'clock petal shower and cuban dancers all added to a good party night.12/04/2013 00:00:00Better than expectedHad head about this restaurant previously, was expecting a great dining space but wasn't hoping for too much from the food. We were pleasantly surprised how good it was. I would definitely recommend to others.11/04/2013 00:00:00UNIQUELY BRILLIANT!We were blown away with the amazing interior and atmosphere. The staff are lovely and very efficient. The cocktail menu is fantastic. My husband and I found the dinner menu full of variety with the food itself beautifully presented and cooked to perfection! The whole experience at Alma De Cuba was faultless and totally unique! We returned for cocktails with friends and family a couple of days later and they didn't want to leave! I would strongly recommend your wonderful restaurant to everyone who finds themselves in Liverpool. It's an absolute MUST!04/04/2013 00:00:00Special treatThe food and service were very good and the gospel singing made this a lovely Easter treat. On the downside, the wine menu was quite limited (nice wine but only two or three of each colour to choose from), and the lack of kids menu meant I had to order a £15 main for my 7 year old.
I would definitely go again and found the rest of the meal apart reasonably good value.31/03/2013 00:00:00AmazingThis restaurant is unique. Amazing and delicate food flavours.
The service at the restaurant and the bar was really good.
The Carnaval party experience was so entertaining and enjoyable that we will definatelly visit this place again !29/03/2013 00:00:00Outstanding foodWe ate here to celebrate out wedding anniversary & couldn't fault anything.
The food was all amazing, particularly the desserts which we could have happily eaten two each as they were that good!
Our waiter was great, attentive but not overly so & as we were celebrating a special occasion we were given complimentary glasses of prosecco which was a lovely touch.
The restaurant itself is superb, amazing setting & decor & perfect for a romantic meal.
I would definitely return & highly recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting Liverpool27/03/2013 00:00:00Liverpool LifeAlma de Cuba came recommended, the venue is stunning, absolute gem and wonderful atmosphere. BUT...... Bar understaffed, we waited ages for cocktails and barman too busy chatting to two customers at the other end. He seemed disinterested until we made it clear we were less than happy with the situation, our drinks came in two separate lots. No mention of Happy Hour, why?!?!? In all honesty if we had not booked a table we would have left. Food and service upstairs made up for it, but again, why not offered Early Bird Menu? The al la carte is expensive but standard very good so don't mind paying. Service is relaxed which suits me but not sure it would suit everyone.14/03/2013 00:00:00Afternoon at Alma de CubaWe went here on a Friday afternoon and it was practically deserted however the staff were very friendly and the food good. It's an absolutely beautiful building and worth a visit just to enjoy the building if nothing else08/03/2013 00:00:00Gospel Sunday LunchGreat afternoon, lovely food and the choir were superb03/03/2013 00:00:00Overall a good experience.Overall a good experience. Ambience was particularly impressive. Food was pretty good, but not great but the atmosphere and service made up for it. Shame there is no Cuban beer on the menu considering the venue, as a feature. Would recommend the experience. They do provide some entertainment on select evenings too.28/02/2013 00:00:00Amazing, again!Drove all the way from Nottingham to experience Alma again and wasn't disappointed! Slightly miffed that there were no lamb brochettes but understandably on a Sunday night. Seafood and chorizo risotto was exquisite.
Well worth the trip and excellent value.24/02/2013 00:00:00Wow Factor!Amazing venue, outstanding service and superb food - I really can't fault anything at this restaurant: from the bubbly girl who greeted us at the entrance, the ambience, the atmospheric music, the pre-dinner drinks at the bar, the stunning spacious venue & decor, to the superb food and outstanding service from our waiter - if you want to go somewhere very special, this is the place. Can't wait to try the Sunday lunch and Gospel choir ...22/02/2013 00:00:00Amazing!Glad we booked, it was really busy. Been before for drinks and wasn't expecting the food to be so delish! Food was amazing. Venue is amazing. Service was fab. Will be back!22/02/2013 00:00:00Wonderful placeWhat an amazing venue! I visited with my student daughter- we had cocktails in the bar downstairs and dined upstairs. if you are looking for somewhere completely different then look no further. Dining there was a really memorable experience. We couldn't make the Sunday brunch (complete with Gospel choir) but have heard greta things about that.21/02/2013 00:00:00Superb surroundings, greatSuperb surroundings, great ambience, delicious food. What more could you ask for in a dining experience?
As many past diners pointed out, we were a little wary of the destination but as soon as we entered we were impressed with the entire set up. The venue is lit mostly by candlelight which creates a very soothing ambience. That the building was formerly a church adds to this atmosphere. It is a lovely place in which to eat. The staff were attentive and helpful and the food arrived in good time.
We had several cocktails piña colada, a definite favourite of mine. I chose the Jerk chicken for my main whilst my fiancé had the chicken and Parma ham, both highly enjoyable.
Will definitely return.15/02/2013 00:00:00Great service, delicious foodAmazing food and excellent service as usual. I can't wait to return to try more dishes!13/02/2013 00:00:00Fabulous all roundService was outstanding, food was stunning throughout in presentation and in quality!
Only thing was the courses came out a little quick, but rather this than slow!
Overall it was an incredible evening13/02/2013 00:00:00Made our children welcome,Made our children welcome, though they do sit down, not for young kids10/02/2013 00:00:00Lovely venue and food. WillLovely venue and food. Will definately be back again!02/02/2013 00:00:00What a venue!!5 of us had lunch at Alma de Cuba on Friday 1st February. On first impressions from the outside we weren't holding out much hope. However once inside it really is a different world. It's a very beautiful conversion of an old Catholic church. Our waiter was really friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious without the portion sizes being too daunting ,though the burgers are a fair size. Everybody really enjoyed the food and wine and we liked it that much we shelled out on cocktails to finish off our lunch. The final bill was surprisingly reasonable and I would have no hesitation in recommending the place. Don't be put off by the street it's on or the outside.01/02/2013 00:00:00Very niceBeautifull place good food and good bar.
I highly recommended30/01/2013 16:00:00Our anniversaryMe and my partner had a really nice day, we had brunch and food while watching the gospel singers, I thought the they were amazing same as the food, drinks and of course the service, I would love to go again and recommend anyone to go.
Thank you!26/01/2013 16:00:00Fantastic Burger and great venueWe both agreed the beef burgers with chilli were the best we had ever eaten in our lives! Fantastic, well presented, juicy and full of flavour. The hand made chips were a bonus.
Unusual venue which is probably better at night (we visited at lunch time) and is situated in a dodgy looking side road - but don't be put off. It is well worth a visit! It's a shame we live over 100 miles away as we would love to visit again.25/01/2013 16:00:00Incredible building! So glad i found this restaurant, I was looking for somewhere a bit special to take my daughter for lunch and I don't think anything would have beaten Alma De Cuba. From the outside it looks unassuming, but inside the old catholic church makes for a stunning surrounding.
The food was excellent, we both had burgers which come served with chips on a slice of tree. It didn't look that big when it arrived but it was actually very-filling. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. At full price i would say Alma De Cuba is good value, but the January half-price office made it superb value.
If you're looking for something a bit special, don't hesitate. And bring a camera.25/01/2013 16:00:00Lovely brunch at Alma De CubaThis was my first visit and I will definately go back again, it's a fab restaurant and it was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon - there was gospel music while we ate which really added to the lovely atmosphere of the restaurant.19/01/2013 16:00:00Lovely food warm settingI enjoyed the food which was extremely nice and well presented. Slightly pricey but I felt satisfied full and had a lovely evening
The only thing that let it down was the ridiculous system for internet booking. I booked it on line and when I arrived there was told my booking wasnt down despite having a confirmation email. I was told without apology that any online bookings after 4pm dont count!!!!! Thankfully a table was found quickly otherwise I would have been extremely unhappy but that system needs sorting18/01/2013 16:00:00An unmissable dining experience inIf you every visit Liverpool and looking for somewhere to dine, then Alma de Cuba is the place to go. The whole experience is unmissable. The service, atmosphere, surroundings, food is an experience. Staff polite, efficient, helpful and always smiling. After dining you can join in the lively atmosphere downstairs in the bar where the music is funky and the petal shower and dancers are something different to add to the evening. Its my favourite place to eat and I never say 'no' to any invite there. I have been with friend in small & large groups and also with my partner for a cosy meal for two. Love it!!18/01/2013 16:00:00mmmmMy favourite meal in Liverpool by far was at Alma de Cuba...the duck spring rolls were delicious to start, and I ordered the Laksa with salmon for my main, my friend had the stuffed chicken breast and it was hard to decide which dish we liked the most. Wonderful ambience in a converted church and northern hospitality to serve.14/01/2013 00:00:00Alma de Cuba - LiverpoolHad a fantastic meal here with some friends when we visited Liverpool from London. Great decor, good service and the food was excellent. Would recommend the gnocchi which was probably the best I've had in uk11/01/2013 16:00:00good food good service good nitegood drinks, good service, good food, good atmosphere cant fault it. We will be back10/01/2013 16:00:00Great placeGreat place for a quick bite of food and drink before/after theatre/cinema. An amazing adaption of the original building. Never get bored of it. Great friendly service too.09/01/2013 16:00:00ANOTHER GREAT NIGHTHave been to this restaurant several times and always excellent food and service04/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent Venue & ServiceReally enjoyed dinner with staff and venue both 5 *03/01/2013 16:00:00What a NightVery Good food, great service, very good food well presented and well served. Great night out with a difference overall very good.03/01/2013 16:00:00Mellow ambianceI took my parents to Alma de Cuba for the second time now, and it is just brilliant, good food, good service and an amazing place to have a drink by the bar. The place is really dark and moody which adds a little mystique to it making it really mellow.27/12/2012 16:00:00Delicious food in a lovelyDelicious food in a lovely setting. The gospel choir were amazing too.15/12/2012 16:00:00We turned up and were theWe turned up and were the only ones in there. However, it was 2pm on a Friday afternoon, maybe after the lunch time rush etc. Definitely different and slightly spooky...but a lovely idea and lovely setting all the same.04/05/2012 00:00:00Alma de Cuba in the formerAlma de Cuba in the former St Peter's Church, Liverpool is a revelation. The atmosphere is superb. Cocktails are the best way to start the night downstairs and then go upstairs to have a bite to eat. It's very noisy in the restaurant so not the place for a romantic meal!23/03/2012 17:00:00
