Set inside the magnificent conversion of the former Catholic church St Peter’s, Alma de Cuba is all about an eclectic mix of Cuban, Hispanic and Latin American influences that are enhanced with Liverpool’s great spirit. This is a must visit destination with “Sunday Service” brunch with gospel choir on Sundays and a carnival atmosphere throughout the weekend. Alma de Cuba’s menu hopes to mirror Cuba's diverse influences by including spices and flavours from around the world, particularly Caribbean, Spanish and Latin American. • "Had a lovely meal here for my partners birthday, not from Liverpool but was staying here for two nights and saw this on-line so decided to book as a surprise. Food was gorgeous with a good range of cocktails available, we went on a Sunday so there was a live singer on which was nice. The restaurant is upstairs and its candlelit which is very romantic. Would definitely go here again while in Liverpool, also good for veggies like me who struggle to find places to eat! Overall service and food was great!"

  • "Went here for a special occasion, food was lovely And great value, small issue; we were running slightly late and called to see if they could move our booking later and was told this wasn't possible however got to the restaurant and there was empty tables? Slightly disappointing!"

  • "Great food, good service. Nice building - converted church and tastefully done. Would certainly return!"

  • "No beef or lamb left. Service was slow and not attentive."

  • "Dishonesty leaves a sour taste in the mouth................... The venue IS interesting - ironically, it does look "authentic". It's worth a glance [not if you have a disability - NO access] The menu - good; our starters, Eggs Benedict & a creamy goats' cheese 'scoop', were fresh and flavourful. The roasts, beef for me, chicken for the husband, were well prepared. The gospel singing was........well, LOUD. We saved our conversation for the breaks. Overall, it was a pleasant Sunday lunch. BUT, we'll never go back. 'Bacardi' features heavily on the drinks list, helping the mega brand to masquerade as Cuban. In fact, "Alma" means soul, but you don't have to know much about US treatment of Cuba to know that this is a very, very bad joke."

  • "We travelled across from hull to dine at alma de Cuba, after having lived in liverpool a few years ago I knew how stunning the property was. My girlfriend had never been, so we planned a couple of days away focused around our dining at alma de Cuba on her birthday. we arrived it was pretty quiet, however it was a Tuesday evening. We had a couple of drinks at the bar, of which the bar tender was friendly and chatted to us, before heading to the restaurant. I had asked for a table near the alter as I believe the view from here showed off the magnificence if this building. As we are both not big eaters, we opted to skip starter and hopefully have room for a sweet. The mojito lamb and jerk chicken is what we ate and both dishes were fantastic"

  • "Alma de Cuba is a beautiful venue! The ambience is great. And the food was delicious! Unfortunately the salmon I had was a bit burned on the sides, but not bad enough to send back. Apart from that the food was really good!"

  • "I booked a table at Alma De cuba for myself and my boyfriend. It is a beautiful venue, the conversion from a church has been done to a very high standard. We had cocktails as we waited for our table. Frankly, I paid an extortionate £8 for an English martini that was vile, the waiter looked disinterested, was condescending and didn't even bother saying thank you. The air of snobbery continued as we were placed on a table (some 15 minutes after our resevation) next to the kitchen doors, away from all the other guests and with no view of the bar below. The food was delicious, but this was the only highlight of the night. By the time the petal drop happened and the dancing started, we were so disappointed we paid without tipping and left."

  • "Fantastic ambience, good service & exquisite food!!! I was visiting Liverpool & wanted to take my hosts for a nice dinner. I researched several restaurants and Alma de Cuba had best reviews so I booked a table. We were not disappointed!! 2 ordered 3 course dinner from early menu, £19.95, Rib Eye steak, I ordered from alar carte menus, Lamb, which was succulent and tender. My friends ordered tempura cod for a starter and stated it was just fabulous. Definitely another visit on my return trip!!!"

  • "Fantastic night, very lively, the bar staff and waitresses very friendly and knew their stuff. Table booked for 9.15pm , with a view over the bar below. Food was really nice, too full to sample puddings which was a shame. Brilliant atmosphere glad we tried it. Not suitable if you want a quiet evening, Highly recommend"

  • "Stunning atmosphere, surroundings and food. We all felt very special afterwards as it was so much more than just a meal out."

  • "Me and my boyfriend aren't from Liverpool but went on a weekend trip. We were told about alma de Cuba from a friend and decided to go. The restaurant itself is beautiful, an old church with beautiful tables and the decor was amazing. The food was something else I ordered butternut squash risotto and it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever tasted! I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone! It was an overall perfect experience."

  • "The food was world class and the service was exceptional - the best dining experience of the last 5 years"

  • "Me and my partner dined at Alma on Friday night and the food was absolutely flawless! We had 3 courses from the ala carte menu, and could not fault the food/drinks. The service on the other hand could be improved, none of the staff smile and there is an air of 'snobbery', they are there to stand and pose rather than be a positive influence on your meal. The menus were vile, sticky, ripped (due to stickiness)! Other than that, the ambiance, food and surroundings were stunning and for this we will return."

  • "Can not fault this restaurant at all. Interior is stylish and smart - a real wow factor when you walk through the door. Service was friendly, accurate and efficient. Cocktails and drinks good. Food delicious, different and well prepared. Highly recommend."

  • "we wnt during the day for lunch, had cocktails and a very good meal. Great location, walkable from the main shopping area and the decor was amazing"

  • "Alma is one of the best options in Liverpool for a fun but a touch classy night out - the ambience never fails to impress new comers, the service is friendly but attentive and professional, the wine list is good. The live music - while good for dancing downstairs after a few drinks - can be a little loud and echoing upstairs, and on this particular night the repertoire made one of my guests remark 'we must have joined a wedding party'. The food is a little hit and miss. Starters are fun and tasty, the main courses are a bit less inspired. Not a place to come for really great cooking - there isn't any I have discovered in Liverpool city centre any way."

  • "Had a great Thursday night here. Started with bread and dips, cheese fondue with vegetables. Then I had the Lamb kebab, while my husband had the Lamb rump both were delicious, plenty to eat. Then after a little while to recover we had a snow egg to share. Also a great band was playing, so overall a great night out!"

  • "Went for the first time for a Valentines dinner - food was brilliant, some food items pricey but I'd say its worth it! Staff were very helpful and friendly, ambiance was wonderful - the building is gorgeous inside! Will definitely come back again, perfect for special occasions, and will check out the bar downstairs too next time!"

  • "The basics of a functioning restaurant were more than satisfactory. We were seated upon arrival, courses were delivered on an appropriate timescale and the food was really quite outstanding. However, staff could be impolite at times making guests feel slightly unwelcome e.g. asking that we hurry with our desert because they needed the table back. Other minor points include the restaurant being ever so slightly too dark, the tables by the speakers being too loud and the cocktails not really matching the standard of the food."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Food was great, very tasty and presentation was amazing. The restaurant very beautiful. The toilet facilities let the place down, it was dirty and untidy. We had an early booking just before 6pm, but we were seated near the wall , and not near the centre , where you could have a better view, at first I thought it probably would be busy, but we left at 9 and tables near the middle still weren't occupied. But on the who very nice evening, we had a lovely waiter Very attentive."

  • "Looking for somewhere special to take my girlfriend for Valentines Night. There were no tables for valentines night but decided to bring our celebration forward a day. We both enjoyed our evening enormously, the food was excellent and my partner felt very special."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Had high expectations, and the food delivered. The service however was a bit disappointing. We had a reservation for 21.00 and they seemed eager to clean and tidy the restaurant for the next day by the time we got our food. This was distracting as we enjoyed out meal. We ordered a bottle of white, but it was served in a big red wine glass... Our glasses were never refilled once it was served, not a big thing, but we had to refill ourselves. On a Sunday the restaurant and bar was almost empty, but the ambiance was good."

  • "Great setting, Great food and Great entertainment! Couldn't have asked for any better of our one meal out in Liverpool - would recommend Alma de Cuba to anyone!"

  • "I have been here once but during the night. The atmosphere was buzzin' just what one expects in a club. Last Sunday I booked a table for 4 for my children and I for our Sunday meal. We love trying different restaurants. The food and service was good. I was puzzled with my coffee though, it was cold. I ordered Cafe de Cubano. The presentation was beautiful but I expected my coffee to be warm or much better hot!"
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "Very good food, exceptionally well presented. This time we just ate from the Early Bird set menu and the food was not compromised in any way. The Jerk Chicken is..wow !..spicy. Good comprehensive wine list."

  • "I definitely chose the right place for my Birthday celebrations with my sisters. The food for each course was delicious and our waitress was very helpful and attentive. After our meal we had planned to have a drink downstairs and then move on. However the atmosphere, dancers and cocktails were so good we stayed until the end of the evening. Unfortunately as we were leaving the night turned sour. We were chatting with one of the door staff whilst getting our coats together to leave when another came over to hurry us up. He was extremely rude and verbally abusive, and when another joined in as we approached the door, it was very intimidating. I am appalled and outraged to be treated in that way particularly after the amount of money we spent!"

  • "Lunch on Sunday Service was sloppy (took 4 requests to get a beer). Sunday lunchtime was a bit dead as the huge place was very underfilled. Gospel choir was not on until 1.30, too late for us. Annoying! The lamb roast lunch was good. The veggie option was only mediocre."
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "Alma de Cuba's food was lovely and tasty but I wouldn't like to go there on a busy night. Waited at least 5 minutes between steak arriving to getting side orders to go with steak and yet there were often members of staff congregated together by the kitchen door. The ambiance/decor etc made the experience enjoyable but even the gospel 'choir' was on without ceremony and wasn't exactly what I had in mind,"
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "We had a lovely time at Alma De Cuba. We had a gorgeous meal followed by cocktails. The food was outstanding. Good portion sizes, well-seasoned and beautifully presented food. There was a great atmosphere throughout the evening. Near the end of our meal the dancers came round to each table and spoke to us which was lovely. The evening was slightly spoiled when we saw the waiter mocking us to his other colleagues. Very unprofessional particularly as he did this standing no more than 5 meters away from our table and not very nice."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "I love to drink at alma de cuba but the restaurant was a bit of a let down. The service was average, our waitress was no where to be seen and we kept having to order our drinks at different intervals as she would take my friend's order and walk away before I had chance to order anything. The starter was great but not worth the £15.95 it cost and the mains were distinctly average. We had the pork belly and lamb and could get it a handful of other restaurants 10 times better quality for that price. The actual restaurant was lovely and the drinks were prompt but I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it as a dining experience to anyone. Pretty disappointing overall."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "We were not told we had a time limit upon arriving for our meal so we didn't expect to be 'shood' away whilst chatting, drinking our wine, and enjoying our selves. We were interrupted during our chat to be told ' guys I'm sorry but we need the table in 15' minutes. Within 15 minutes we would have otherwise moved . It just seemed unnecessary but we moved anyway with no issue. After this we went downstairs. Within 10 minutes, a member of staff approached my husband and said ' excuse me, we need to move the stools away from the bar' WE WERE ON THE STOOLS! Rude and off putting!"

  • "The ambience is second to none! The setting is stunning as you walk into the room lit by candles and a chandelier. The food choices are amazingly different and the staff are very helpful in terms of explaining what the choices are. The food itself is beautifully presented and extremely good quality. I would definitely recommend it to you ."
