A word from Albert's Didsbury
Albert’s restaurant and bar is the eagerly awaited new addition to the dining scene in West Didsbury. The new restaurant is the second Albert’s opening, and is a sister restaurant to Albert’s Shed in Castlefield, in Manchester city centre.

The new space, which has been created from the old Barleycorn pub site on Barlow Moor Road in Didsbury, aims to provide South Manchester with a slick, modern space with dining for 160 guests inside and will also feature a fabulous outside dining terrace for 60 – perfect for alfresco dining this summer.

The menu is modern British with an eclectic mix of Albert’s favourites and dishes from around the globe, all using only fresh local ingredients. The restaurant will be open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner, and, in a first for Albert’s, will be offering a full brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays.

Diner Reviews
  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Albert's. We arrived early, but our table was ready. The waiter asked us if it was a special occasion, and later brought a complimentary sweet course for our birthday boy, complete with candle! The room is slightly noisy, but not enough to prevent normal conversation at the table - just enough to prevent us from being overheard. The food was great, the service not quite perfect: a side order of chips was missing, and I pointed this out to the waitress, who spoke to the waiter who had taken our order. Despite this the side order never arrived. I spoke to the original waiter and the item was not added to the bill. In a way this was just as well, because it turned out that extra chips were not really needed."

  • "We found the food and service to be excellent at Albert's. Our server who I think was called Petra was attentive but not overbearing. My companion has food intolerance's and she could have not have been more helpful even speaking to the chef to deal with a couple of issues. I would definitely go back and will be recommending Albert's to my friends."

  • "We went to alberts for my mums birthday. The food was good but dreadful service, took ages and the waitress was quite rude and grumpy. "

  • "Alberts is a lovely meeting place. Very well set out and the outside seating area is heated as they do in Europe. The food is really good and well presented and the staff are friendly and very attentive. Definitely go there again."

  • "We had a lovely "girls" birthday lunch at Alberts. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this place. Also, it was really good value for money. We will certainly go back again for the next birthday lunch we have."

  • "Had a lovely dinner. £10.95 for two very good courses is excellent value. Great buzz even on a Tuesday lunchtime! Perhaps a few more vegetarian options for my son."

  • "I took my friend to Alberts for lunch for her birthday, I knew it would be good as I have been many times, for lunch. We both chose off the set menu as it is always very good and very good value for money, which it was once again. The food is lovely, just enough for lunch, a very good choice and the service is top notch and very friendly. I highly recommend Alberts. My only criticism would be that when the restaurant is full it is very very noisy, something I only notice when I've taken my 86 year old mom!!"

  • "We ate at Albert"s Didsbury last Saturday night and it was great, would highly recommend the restaurant. The food was lovely and the menu varied. The ambience was a little noisey due to the restuarant being very busy and open plan, but I could understand why it is so popular. The service was attentive, friendly and quick. We will go again. Thank you."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating my birthday. Right from the start we were made to feel important. Even though we had asked for a window table the greeter suggested that we may like a booth instead. We took her advice and were not disappointed. Our food was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and always made sure we had all we needed. We shall certainly be going back there as soon as we can and perhaps try an outside table when the weather improves."

  • "There's a real buzz about Albert's and, as we've eaten there many times, we knew what to expect. It was a Mothers' Day late lunch for the four of us and we weren't disappointed. Menu was limited but the choice was good. Wine and drinks were as pricey as you'd expect. We struck lucky with the weather and had a table on the semi-enclosed terrace. It was almost perfect. Almost? Why restaurants still allow smoking in their outdoor areas mystifies me. On three occasions, smoking diners appeared nearby from inside the restaurant, disturbing and probably spoiling the experience of nearby tables. One couple upped and left and two others moved table. Fortunately, we were upwind. Otherwise excellent."

  • "We had the set three course meal but it was fabulous, all three courses. Our waiter Tim was attentive yet genuine. The whole experience was the perfect celebration. High quality but not at all stuffy. Will definitely go back...already planning when!"

  • "Excellent food, waiter was lovely but the restaurant so so loud you couldn't talk to eat other with out shouting."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Too long a wait between courses. Food mediocre and overpriced. Restaurant extremely busy yet people arriving after us were being served their food before us. Half an hour wait for just a couple of drinks. Staff quite unfriendly. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Got 50% knocked off the bill in the end but even then we were waiting a good long while for them to sort that out!!"

  • "We had a lovely meal served by a delightful waiter called James. We were seated away from the kitchen noise as requested and despite a rather loud crowd of mothers and children, which one would expect at this time of year, managed to hear what we were saying (just). Whilst the food was fabulous and James making our visit extra special with his attentive service I would say the acoustics of the restaurant could do with being improved. So, if you are a little hard of hearing or looking for intimate, chilled surroundings I'd swerve it on big occasions. That said I would recommend a visit to Alberts as the food is delicious and service (if all waiters are of James' standard) is marvellous."

  • "I've been to Albert's a number of times, mainly as a great venue for business dinners. On this occasions some American visitors had asked go go back to Albert's as they had enjoyed it the last time they were there in November 2013. Great food, service and anbience. Only one minor point, other than the specials the menu was virtually identical to that in November, perhaps needs changing a little more often. That said I still had the same main course :))"

  • "The restaurant was too busy for the numbers present to cope. The service was really bad to the point we had to ask to order drinks and food. The food was not the best either, the meat was not cooked the way we wanted it but by that point I didn't want to ruin the evening by sending it back. This is a great place where food is usually really good, hopefully this isn't the start of a decline."

  • "We absolutely love this restaurant it is our absolute all time favourite! We always recommend this place to friends and family and everyone loves it too! Can't wait to go again in a few weeks for my Fiances birthday. Well done to all at Alberts Didsbury and thank you all for a great all round experience every time we come."

  • "I visited Alberts after a recommendation from a colleague at work. My starter of mushrooms on rustic bread was 10/10. I ordered pot roast beef for my main with root veg and dauph potatoes as my sides. I tried the potatoes & noticed something chewy (a piece of white plastic) inside the layer, I spat it into my napkin as I didn't want my partner to be put off by his meal so nothing was mentioned. The roast beef was cooked to perfection but after noticing the plastic I unfortunately left the majority of it. I don't want to come across as an awkward customer as I am not fussy with food and not a complainer but since I received this email to give feedback I feel it should be highlighted to prevent this from happening in the future"

  • "Staff are lovely, service is quick and spot on . The food is so moorish and the menu is diverse. I love this place and would sit thinking up an excuse just to make the journey to eat there anytime. From fish and chips to venison, Sticky toffee pudding to purge any weight watching for . Something for everyone from all walks!"

  • "Had a lovely meal at Alberts, myself and my wife took out mothers for lunch. Everyone was happy with their food. Make sure you get the chunky chips."

  • "We went as a family of 4 for Sunday lunch at 4.30pm.The parking on a nearby road was tricky as the area is very congested and the restaurant car park very small. It was lovely and warm inside with a nice level of noise. We were seated quickly and our drinks and food orders taken promptly but we waited too long for each course and we never received everyone's order at the same time. Towards the end of our meal when the restaurant was less busy the door to the outside terrace was left open so we were sat in a cold and smoky draft so I left my husband waiting (again) for the bill while I went for the car to speed up our departure. We enjoyed the food though!"

  • "As usual the food was fabulous and we had a great time though attention to detail was poor and service not great. They were very busy but we were waiting for things and had to ask a couple of times for the same thing."

  • "We enjoyed our experience,,,Everyone really enjoyed the food apart from me as I found the braised meat balls bland,,Bad choice on my part though,,I should have had the duck but it was a special I didnt realise was on as it the list was not attached to my menu. The service from our waitress though was nothing short of superb..So overall a good night out and the lower ratings reflect my personal enjoyment of the main course not everyone elses.."

  • "Had an evening meal with some friends from work, the service was great, very friendly and welcoming. Our server made every effort to make our visit enjoyable, including providing seperate plates to make it easier to share sides. The food was excellent, I had the fish and chips, although I would've loved just a couple more chips!"

  • "I went to Alberts Didsbury with a friend for lunch on Saturday. The set menu of 2 courses for 10.95 was excellent value and it wasn't only me who thought so, the place was packed. For starters I had very well cooked moules mariniere whilst my friend had a lamb and feta samosa and for mains we had beautiful fish and ENORMOUS chunky chips. We were too full for pudding and settled for a very good cappuccino to end our meal. The downside was that the restaurant was so busy we had a long wait for food and had to ask four times for drinks. A smart restaurant with a great atmosphere and well-priced food. What more could you want?"
